Defector says Iran involved in 9/11
Jerusalem Post ^ | January 24, 2004`

An Iranian defector, Hamid Reza Zakeri, told German police that Iran was involved in the September 11th attacks, the Chicago Tribune reported. Zakeri, 28, was providing testimony in the trial of accused plotter Abdel-Ghani Mzoudi, a Moroccan student who lived in Hamburg and was friends with three of the four suicide pilots.

According to the defector, the attacks were an al-Qaida/Iranian joint venture, for which ultimate responsibility lay with a man named Saif al-Adel, a Hizbullah official in Iran. The testimony was greeted with pronounced skepticism by some German intelligence officials, saying that it "looks a little bit constructed."

The appeal to the court to consider Zakeri's story amounts to a last-minute move by the chief German prosecutor, Kay Nehm, to preserve the fast-fading possibility of a conviction in what is likely to be the last trial in Germany of an alleged accomplice of the Sept. 11 hijackers.

Last year the Tribune reported that Shadi Abadallah, a 26-year-old Jordanian who said he served as one of Osama bin Laden's bodyguards in Afghanistan, said that one of the world's most-wanted terrorists, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, described by Secretary of State Colin Powell as an "al-Qaida associate," was closely allied with the Iranian government.

An Iranian defector, Hamid Reza Zakeri, would like very much for the U.S. military to remove the Iranian government.

I do believe Iran is not chanting "Death to America" so loudly any more. Look to the east, look to the west, mullahs. Let's here that chant some. We'll take your threat as 100% real.

I don't think it's just that.

Who knows if we will find WMDs in Iraq. But now there are two infantry divisions in Iraq, right next to Iran. Invading Iran without taking out Iraq is probably not do-able. Iran will change by 2005, one way or another.

German intelligence officials, saying that it "looks a little bit constructed". . . .

Surprise. Well let's see ..

"UK leads huge rise in EU exports to Iran... Exports from Germany, Iran's biggest supplier, rose by 23 per cent to Euro 1.9 bn, while Iran's sales to Germany fell by Euro 148 m to Euro 394, almost due ... "

says a google hit. It's a couple of years old. A more recent hit is

"Iran's European Partners," By Kenneth R. Timmerman Published: Tuesday, December 9, 2003 on www.insightmag.com describes Iran's importance to some EU countries especially Germany.

I knew some Iranians (they called themselves Persians) back in my college days. They were people just like "us". I imagine they are sick of living under the thumb of the Mullahs by now.
