I did hear Fox news describe the marchers as "pro-life", rather than "anti-abortion."

I was gratified to hear that.

It is striking that even in its weakened state Catholicism is driving the pro-life movement. Were the whole Church at every level pro-life, its cultural impact would be colossal.

The Tom Daschles and Ted Kennedys, as they looked outside their offices and saw a sea of pro-lifers on Constitution Avenue, must have trembled a bit, wondering how long they can get away with their pro-abortion Catholicism.

I watched the event and would be very interested to know the final tally on attendance. Estimates put that number well over 300,000!! EWTN provided 4 hours of live coverage.

It was briefly mentioned on the local news but only within the context of "President Bush spoke to an anti-abortion rally via cell phone". The emphasis was then placed on "this is an election year."

Catholic Ping - let me know if you want on/off this list

But it was good to see John Kerry's bishop in attendance, Sean Patrick O'Malley, the new head of the Boston archdiocese. Will O'Malley follow the lead of Raymond Burke, the La Crosse, Wisconsin bishop, who recently told pro-abortion Catholic pols to shape up or stop coming to communion?

Nothing yet.

March for Life organizers handed out a flier urging the bishops to stop sitting on their hands. "A Message For Our Bishops: The Way of La Crosse Leads To Life," it said.

God bless the faithful.

This author is too hopeful. The hearts of Daschle and Kennedy are so hardened that it will take the Lord Himself to thaw them out, not a mere few hundred thousand people voicing their support for the life in the womb. FWIW, I've gone several times to the annual DC March for Life. It's a good, honorable thing to do, to be a physical expression of support for pre-birth life. I probably didn't change any minds or policies by being there, but the Lord saw, and it was good to take a physical stand for what's right.

This morning's Atlanta paper had not a word about it. Nothing. (Bet they don't do the same to the abortion-rights crowd come April.)
