As early as tomorrow, the House Judiciary committee will be considering House Bill HR2824. In fact, this bill is listed to be considered for online mark up on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 10:00am.
Why is this important? Because its sister bill, S1177, which has already passed in the Senate eliminates your right to order cigars by mail!
It is critical that all cigar smokers email, phone or fax these representatives and request that "cigars" and "all other tobacco products" NOT BE ADDED TO HR2824.
A lot of you had problems with the email addresses in our previous email. Here is a revised list along with some fax numbers that were kindly passed along to us.

I recieved this at my office from Mikes yesterday while I was unfortunately out doing other business. I had no idea this was up.
This is a huge problem for folks like myself who enjoy cigars. If we cannot buy them mail order, the local purveyors will exploit that beyond relief.
I searched for any other related posts and found nothing except one about a lawsuit by the Seneca Indians regarding online tobacco sales.
I suggest anyone who enjoys smoking cigars to follow up on this and hopefully so will non cigar enthusiasts already tired of the nanny state in many other areas.

I hope I'm not the only FReeper who enjoys stogies or cares about this meddling.

Damn , you're fast ...I was just going to ping you.
I got this e-mail from Mikes down in North Myamuh and usually it's just a sales solicitation.
Damn these meddling peckerheads. Local shops will charge 10 bucks a stick unless they know the mail order wholesalers like Mikes and Thompsons or Holts can keep them honest.
Is nothing sacred anymore?

Luckily we have the Republicans in power, and as men of principle, they'd allow no such bill to pass.

Note I did not break the Breaking News protocol even though it was Breaking News to me. It may be too late already.

more ways to squeeze money out of everyone's pockets... Here in NY they're picking on the indian reservations because their palms are itching for tax revenue.

I am sorely pissed. A La Gloria Cubana Double Corona a day is my only vice left and one I savor.

I called and registered my dismay with a couple of the folks above. I am a regular Thompsons customer since Cali went nuts a few years back.

Thanks Sink...sorry to be redundant.
I had no idea. You know if they do this, we'll go back to the 10 bucks or more a stick like the poseur craze a few years back and Mikes is El Credito's main purveyor and my only steady source of La Glorias.
It's a long drive from Nashville to Miami....14 hours last time I drove it.
Ping me please if you get further updates. Sorry I left off Lew and company..

I emailed the Chairman, Sensenbrenner and Melissa Hart(a good 2nd amendment person and this is the same principle i.e. choice).
I was alerted by JRtabacco where I can the cigar I'm smoking now as I type!
To: ml/nj
Thanks.
I used cigars instead of cigar in my search.
Does anyone know where this stands today?

I buy Lew's Ultimate Presidents; I'd have to stock up and get me a cedar chest if I can't buy those guys through the mail.
