The right to speak freely and the right to bear arms are the most sacred of all rights.
Everything else flows from there.

Yes lets elect another Jimmy Carter, maybe we can get the Panama Canal back. Oh! I forgot, China has their claws around it now. <sarcasm

Unlike most 'conservatives', I've actually served this country, therefore, I've actually earned my vote What arrogant, self-absorbed, elitist bull****.
Perhaps you were unclear on the concept - the days of Jim Crow, poll tax, reading requirements, land ownership, or any other form of aristocratic vote are gone. All citizens vote - all are equally deserving of the right.
To: Protagoras
people stay at home and don't vote, they didn't put Democrats in office. You cannot possibly be that unknowlegable about the way this works.
Heck, one of the prime reason I go to the polls to vote is to cancel out my father-in-law's vote.
If you stay home -- and you KNOW that the Democrats take voters to the polls by the droves -- then yes, you ARE putting Democrats in office.
And you don't even have the excuse that the stupidest person in the country has, the ones that don't vote; you KNOW better, so you are doing it on purpose.

Let me quote from yesterday's editorial in the San Deigo Union-Trib:
"Despite the start of what is likely to become a bruising re-election battle, George W. Bush delivered his State of the Union address last night with the highest approval ratings of any president at this point in his term since Dwight Eisenhower in 1956."

Well, when you do look it into further and have an understanding of the whole problem, please get back to me with your plan. I would be interested in reading it.
I would hazard a guess, that you will find the issue more prickly to navigate than you think.

So rather than blame the situation on the fact that Bush I moved left, you chose to blame those who decided to cast their vote for someone they felt they could believe in. The politician is supposed to work to gain the trust of their constituency, not the other way around I agree Bush,I messed up on some issues .. but he didn't screw us over like Clinton did
One would think some would have learned a lesson after Clinton
And Yes I do blame the people .. They are the ones that VOTE

I voted for Bush 41 in 1992 and not for Perot, even though I liked him more. I still got Slick. This time I will vote my conscience. I am tired of the vote for the RINO it is the lessor of the two evils argument.

do so honestly, realizing that you are in essence casting your vote for the Dem.No, in essence I will be casting a vote for who I believe in. The fact that others choose to continue to vote by the alphabet is not my fault, and the fact that I refuse to follow the masses in their futile attempts doesn't represent a vote for the Dems. It represents voting how the men who founded this nation believed it should be. I suggest you reread Washington's Farewell Address and his discussion of parties. Those words have become true today

Fair enough. But I am somewhat disillusioned about the 60-votes-in-the-Senate thing. I figure if the GOP gets over 60, then Tom Daschole will simply say "No, you need 85" and the Republican "leadership" will obligingly bend over and grab their ankles.

Did you catch the section of the speech challenging Congress to rein in spending, with the clear implication that it was all their fault? That was the height of hypocracy.

The republican party has compromised themselves to the left of where the dems were twenty years ago. A bit more compromise and there will be no difference, even in speech, between them.
