New York's Mayor Bloomberg, a dedicated foe of tobacco doesn't like fat either - and he thinks it was fat and not a head injury that killed diet guru Dr. Robert Atkins. Chowing down at a New York firehouse, Bloomberg told firefighters "I don't believe that bull- s- - - - that [Atkins] dropped dead slipping on the sidewalk," Bloomberg said eating low fat bow-tie pasta, chicken and vegetables with FDNY Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and a group of Brooklyn firefighters according to the New York Post.
Atkins, whose high protein, low carb diet is the rage across America reportedly died after he suffered severe head injuries in a fall on an icy Manhattan sidewalk last April.
When a firefighter asked the mayor what Atkins looked like when he met him, the mayor replied that "He was fat," adding that he spat out the food he was served at Atkins' home into a napkin because "it was inedible."
Dr. Stuart Trager, a consultant for Atkins, told the Post "We're baffled and dismayed by the mayor's comments. Our hope is that this was just a joke gone bad."
The low-carb, high-protein Atkins diet sparked a revolution, the Post reported, with millions of followers shunning pasta and bread for steaks and sausages. Critics have claimed the high amounts of fat in many recommended foods can lead to high cholesterol and heart attacks.

139 - "I don't mind the vendors, its the tourists who gather around them in Times Square that are a problem. I guess the folks in Fargo really need knockoff Manolo Blanicks for Aunt Fern back home.
As far as the vagrants are concerned, what PISSES me off is that since I am at the end of the R line, the lovely odor of NY Bum greets me every morning I get on the subway. Then when they come out of the ground and start harassing the old ladies, thats when I really get pissed off."
1st paragraph - Typical. ugh!!!
2nd paragraph - because of 1st paragraph, you see what tolerates youall.
Stay in NY, pleeeeeeeeze !!!!

Okay here goes -
5lb potatoes
7 or 8 decent size dill pickles, diced
a dozen hard boiled egges, diced
mayo
mustard
pickle juice
peel, dice and boil potatoes
add the eggs and pickles
add mayo and stir til it's nice and moist
add just enough mustard to give it a slight yellow tinge
add an ounce or two or pickle juice
Let it sit a couple hours in the fridge or better yet, overnight.
Notice nothing is really measured per se. The minute you begin to measure recipes like this, it gets screwed up.

Atkins passed out a few yrs. ago due to a heart abnormality which was NOT associated with blood clots in the coronary arteries, which leads to heart attacks. I think he had an infection, endocarditis, which led to further problems.

You'd think that Bloomie would believe the death certificate (
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/bloombergatkins1.html) in front of his face...
Then again, no one ever accused Bloomberg of being a rocket scientist either...
Just damn.

Perhaps someone should've offered Mayor Bloomberg a bran muffin for dessert...

So for the totality of humanity with all its variations and body types, it's a one diet fits all? Well this is what many on Atkins seems to think.
That's an incredible mis-characterization of the diet and dieters. Atkins is very specific about what types of overweight individuals the diet is designed for and why it works. Dr. Atkins' is adamant that we all don't thrive on exactly the same mix of carbohydrates, protein, and fat. I sincerely hope it is not your general purpose to misinform.

Basic foodstuffs like rice, corn, wheat, potatoes, oats, nuts, fruits, veggies have been the basis for human diet throughout millions of years. I will readily admit I'm not the world's expert on this but that's not what I read. Cereals have not been around in quantity since after 6000 B.C. or so. Most of those millions of years our diets were not as heavily carbohydratic (is that a word?) as they are today.
Eat meat about as regularly as our ancestors did ie stumbling across a dead dear and having a feast, then back to hunting and pecking.
It is my understanding that caveman got about 65% of his calories from protein.
