Tancredo for president, group says
Rocky Mountain News ^ | January 21, 2004 | M.E. Sprengelmeyer

Immigration critics in Tennessee want to draft Rep. Tom Tancredo as a protest candidate in the upcoming Republican presidential primary, but don't expect the Littleton lawmaker to become their volunteer.

"A lot of people think my politics are crazy, but I'm not delusional. I don't think I'm going to be president of the United States," Tancredo said Tuesday, in response to a new committee, "Tennesseans for Tancredo," touting a write-in candidacy on the Internet.

Some immigration critics are so upset about President Bush's proposal to offer legal status to millions of illegal immigrants that they want to field a protest candidate in Republican presidential primaries in Tennessee and elsewhere.

A Web site, www.tennesseansfortancredo.com, cites the need to "make noise, collect signatures, build a grass-roots movement that attracts citizens from all walks of life and all political parties."

With or without Tancredo's approval, they hope critics of Bush's plan will write in Tancredo during state presidential contests.

Tancredo said he supports Bush on most issues besides immigration and could not see himself having much of an effect on Bush's chances.

This week, the representative launched "Team Tancredo," a political action committee to raise money for candidates who oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"Tancredo for President" bumper stickers have been floating around the Internet for more than a year.

"It's a conversation starter," he said. "And the conversation usually starts with, 'Who the hell is Tom Tancredo?' ''

I was responding to the impeachment statement. He would not be impeached because of this because the Constitution clearly gives him the authority. The only thing that would be feasible was for a congressional over-ride through countervailing legislation or a Supreme Court challenge.

A small piece of border trivia to warm the cockles of your heart:

The combined apprehension number for ICE and BCP for FY 2002 was 1,062,279. Of that number, 994,720 were Mexican. Now is that greedy or what? That left only 67,559 slots for every other nationality under the sun.

This is perturbing as I have many Asian friends. Japan only got 66; South Korea only got 527; Viet Nam only got 437; the Philippines, a former US territory, only got 720. And why were less than 13% of them cute latinas? There has to be a good affirmative action lawsuit in this mess somewhere and I think we should pursue it.

I haven't seen the final FY 2003 figures yet (they're still stuck somewhere in the political spin cycle), but when last seen the count for our southern border alone stood at 932,251. That does not include our other borders or the folks who "forgot" their visa expiration date.

Cute cartoon but it doesn't apply. Or, are you contending the bum came to this country ILLEGALLY?

You were totally correct in a post that said that we, the American people, would not know what was said at the summit between Fox and Bush or what was actually said to the group.

I am referring you to post #137 on this thread. Please read. I know it may not be true, but I have a sinking gut feeling that it is true.

Bud, I help pay the taxes to run that operation. Get it?

I get it. But you don't get to walk into the White House with a bullhorn and harang Bush at 3 AM just because you "pay the taxes" either. Freedom of speech does NOT equate to an obligation by others to be heard.

Maybe the WH nor Ridge 'have' to listen to us or read our email.

Are your emails being rejected too?

So then they are forcing our hand to show it 'is' our constitutional right to vote against them.

Yup, it certainly is.

Hey, thank them for the way we feel. They make the policy. they ignore us. We can do the same.

Your privilege. But your privilege doesn't extend to spamming the White House or having some "right" to be heard.

You folks need to go ahead and form your next "powerful 3rd party".

You seem very concerned about this as you bring it up almost daily.

You know it's going to happen Tex. America is starting to outgrow it's two-party system as they are becoming one in the same. Much of this is out of shear frustration and anger.

Regardless of whether you like it or not, it's eventually going to happen Tex. Nothing last forever Tex, and the days of the two beltway parties are coming to an end.

It may take another ten years, but bet the rent, at the rate people are being disenfranchised, it's going to happen.

And, my name is not "Bud." I really am a cheesy, badly-animated '60s cartoon character.

I can't say that it would suprise me.

Clinton used EOs to fundamentally change our justice system and how property owners could be sued.

He also used them to institutionalize socialist "sustainable development " with his EO that created the president's council on sustainable development.

Lastly, while he was in Britain, he wrote an EO that would have removed all the undefined powers from the states to the federal government, but the association of governors raise heck about it and it was rescinded.

The other unfunny leg to this story, is that today the Supreme Court ruled that the EPA has greater authority of a states environmental laws than the state does. The state of Alaska was the guinea pig for this awful piece of judical activism.

Funny that our congress didn't raise heck, they are legally entitled to enjoin the president to rescind EOs. Congress just doesn't seem to care to execute its Constitutional duties.

No I am not concerned about it. I am sick of those threatening to do it. Do it already and lets get it on. Stop crying crocodile tears over Bush's "betrayal". This is going to do for you what McClintock did for “true conservatives” in California. Which is to finally, once and for all, put to rest the all-powerful “base” that hasn’t existed in 12 years.

I'm ready. I'm sick of a tiny, whiny minority tail attempting to wag the Republican dog and wish they would simply go away and cry elsewhere.

Don't be sick about it Tex. It's going to happen. It's inevitable. The two party cartel in DC is becoming old, and many can see it's becoming, "good cop, bad cop", one in the same. Like I said Tex, give it 10 years or so, and as more and more American's become disenfranchised, it will happen.

LOL. Yep in 10 years. At the end of that it will be just 10 more years. Joe, you just keep on hoping, hope is good.

Just in case you don't make it, to get a preview, just look around this here forum. The focus and direction is becoming clear. The anger and concern is justified.
