Ok I should have KNOWN someting was up when our local mad mortarmen fired at us during the DAYLIGHT.
As the answer slowing comes to the other military people in the Canteen, let me answer my own question for the rest of you. It's so they can more accurately direct their fire at NIGHT!
HOLY COW! The almost got it right in the X ring tonite.
About 300 feet south of where I'm sitting right now. No one hurt but some ringing ears at our south guard tower. Gonna take pics tomorrow. By the sound they hit us with a couple 82mm's. Think I'll sleep in my clothes tonite. Doubt they're done. Just a gut feeling.
Glad everyone liked the story.

Prayers for your safety, and for that of all who serve with you.
We'll never be able to thank any of you enough for all that you do in service to your country!
(That ringing in the ears stuff can be serious business. I wish I knew more of the details, but a young man -- last name Preston -- from Wapakoneta, Ohio is home from Iraq because he's still experiencing vertigo because of the ringing in his ears; evidently he was VERY close to one of those explosions!)
I imagine it'd be counterproductive to sleep with ear protection.
God bless you and keep you safe!
