Sharpton gets zero percent in Iowa
By Lester Holloway
Presidential candidate Revd Al Sharpton faced a blow to his hopes of taking the White House when he scored an embarrassing zero percent of the vote in Iowa
The civil rights leader came bottom of the poll in the first stage of the race to choose the Democratic challenger to George W Bush for the US general election later this year.
Sharpton had decided not to campaign in Iowa but instead concentrate on other states, however the Iowa results will not have done much to create the impression of a snowballing campaign.
Sharptons zero percent score was behind Wesley Clarks 0.1 percent. Senator John Kerry won the poll, with fellow Senator John Edwards coming second. The frontrunner, former Vermont governor Howard Dean came a disappointing third.
The only other black contender for the White House Carol Moseley Braun, had pulled out of the race to back Dean.
Some African American leaders see the 2004 election as a chance to get even after thousands of black votes were discarded in Florida in the 2000 election which George Bush controversially won.
Melanie Campbell, president and CEO of the National Coalition for Black Civic Participation (NCBCP), said: "I think there is still a lot of anger out there after what happened in Election 2000, peoples votes not getting counted. This is the very first presidential election that well be faced with."
Voter registration campaigns involving the black churches have reported success in signing up 2,000 voters in just two weeks. They aim to bolster the black vote in Florida by 15 percent, threatening to win the state for the Democrats.
I mean, how can the mainstream media just ignore this puke er ....uh .... reverund?
Why ...... why that's blatent racism, ain't it?
Here's a guarantee!! The same thing will happen in New Hampshire. Sharpton will get close to "zero" in New Hampshire because the dems there are racist, black haters, as well. When, oh when, will the dem exploitation, a sort of latter day slavery, of our black citizens stop??
The only ballots cast in Florida that weren't counted were those where it was impossible to discern which chad had been punched. Why is it so hard for some people to understand this?
