How can they claim that the wearing of the hijab and all makes men focus on the woman's intellectual abilities - when in many Muslim lands teaching women is frowned upon? The men don't think the women HAVE intellectual abilities!

America was founded on the freedom to worship as we please.
Like the footbindings of China years past, many of these women are not comfortable without the head scarves. We are not France.
From what I have seen, the girls are less likely to wear the scarves as their mothers. This is a matter of comfort. Telling these women not to wear headscarves is like telling your grandma that she has to wear a thong.
