Young Conservative Is Toast Of Talk Radio
Los Angeles Times ^ | 01/20/04 | Rone Tempest

On Dec. 12 Bueler inflamed matters by distributing a Conservative Club newsletter in which he wrote that "Liberals welcome every Muhammad, Jamul and Jose who wishes to leave his Third World state and come to America — mostly illegally — to rip off our health-care system, balkanize our language and destroy our political system."

The statement was borrowed directly from the sayings and writings of nationally syndicated San Francisco radio host Michael Savage, whom Buehler credits for inspiration.

The club's motto, "Protecting our Borders, Language and Culture," is also a Savage slogan.

This young man named Tim Bueler got the liberals at his school in Rohnert Park, California all riled up and became the toast of conservative talk radio. He listens to Michael Savage's radio show, "The Savage Nation."

Listened to Savage once or twice. He's a buffoon and full of himself. Heck when I was in high school, I debated for the 80 Libertarian Presidential candidate, Ed Clarke.

BTW, I won't register with the LA Slimes. Does Buehler propose a solution or does he rant, like his hero Savage?

Bueler has an interesting take on his hero. Read this excerpt for yourself:

"I'm missing it right now. I'm getting depressed," Bueler said, breaking into a broad smile. "It's almost like a drug to me. I have to listen to him." Bueler does not agree with everything Savage says. He does not condone, for example, Savage calling a gay caller a "sodomite" and telling him to "get AIDS and die" — a statement that caused the cancellation of his short-lived Saturday afternoon talk show on MSNBC. It's just that for Bueler, a news junkie who reads the online versions of the Washington Times and New York Times every morning as well as several conservative-view websites, Savage is "the voice of reason. He's my hero."

Wonder if he's a poster on Free Republic. :)

So? When I was in high school, I thought that Cheech and Chong were the greatest.

Just hope that Beuler, doesn't hang up on the phone with impunity.

BTW, he still doesn't have any solutions just rants, like his hero Savage.

This is a great example, folks, of the media and everyone on the left trying to paint a very negative picture of conservatives. You may think it is funny, but it does a lot of damage. Comparing Jose to Mohamed, and saying they are here to suck up the welfare system, is pure uglyness. I can't begin to tell you how many readers will read this article and go away with a bad perception of conservatives. This is more usefull to the Dems, than Dean is to Bush.

I have always felt that ravings like that were probably planted by the Dems to make us look like crazed, foaming at the mouth bigots. Some of the immigration threads on FR look that way - while there are certainly things to discuss in Bush's proposal, there is no need for the sheer hysterical bigotry that I see on those threads. And I am convinced that some of the posters are Dem plants.

I've made the same statement numerous times.

And every article written by a lefty that mentions the name Michael Savage will mention the 'sodomite' quote, until the end of time. It will be for Savage what 'potato' was to Quayle.

That quote, which killed Savage on TV, did no harm to him on radio. Savage is an entertaining voice who is the antithesis of the ever-logical Conservatives like Rush. That is his spot. He is closer to Pat Buchanan than to GWB or mainstream Republicans. He also holds environmental and public health positions which differ radically from mainstream Cons.
Jaco, the morning partisan on our local FM talk station in STL, intimated once that Savage had a run-in with the law over herbal remedies under his real name, Michael Wiener. This does not invalidate his views. I find it humorous that someone calls him "the voice of reason".

That is exactly my point. The media loves to portray conservative as racists. Europeans and Latin Americans have parroted those comments to me numerous times. Even if Savage isn't run of the mill conservative, he will portrayed as "a typical conservative." We have to be carefull. Even if people have real concerns about security and uncontrolled immigration, raging against entire social groups, is NOT any way to effectively campaign for policy change.

I am a regular listener to Michael Savage; I was referring to how people who do NOT listen to him - people who read articles written by anti-conservatives - will perceive his message.

Lefties love to grab onto the most extreme quote by a conservative that they can find in order to imply that all conservatives hold that extreme view.

I agree wholeheartedly. And to Savage's over the top rant on immigrants - I place the blame squarely on the INS and I am waiting to hear President Bush say how he is going to cut through the crap (there is no other word for it) which prevents people from getting their documents in a reasonable period of time. This failure is one huge part of the Untold Story of why everyone in public office has turned a blind eye to the new residents of our cities.

BTW, Baltimore is such a basket case that huge areas have collapsing empty houses. Even the native-born poor are leaving as quickly as they can. Our Dim mayor is courting Hispanic 'immigrants.' Setting aside the sadism of this proposal, how can he ask police to check 'documents' when he is begging them to come to his city.

Never a good idea to let a callow 17 year old speak for "conservatives." I can see just by glancing at his remarks that he's prone to putting his foot in his mouth and serving red meat to liberals.

Cut the kid some slack. He's only in high school. I think he is doing something. He is showing some big you-know-whats going against the liberal teachers and their "minds-full-o'mush" minions.

The sodomite quote is different than the potato gaff with Quayle because Savage has 10 million listeners a week that listen for more than to hear him rip into someone where watching and listening to Quayle was a car wreck happening almost every time he spoke. Also, it won't be long before Savage produces another sound bite for the haters out there.

I was not in the States for most of the Bush/Quayle election year, but I can't say that I ever heard him give a speech or an interview that was not competent.

Four years ago Quayle ran in the NH primary or at least set out to run. He accepted an invitation to speak to us in the oldest colonial meeting house still in original condition (Sandown NH). We turned out and he delivered a decent speech. I must admit, I give every candidate a lot of credit to run for office and he no different, and he was quite good with none of the gross foibles of times past. But the press was there, packed in, just to get the odd sound bite.

Are you familiar with the real story of the 'potato' gaffe? If not, I'll be glad to share it with you.
