What's the reason for Edward's surge?? I always thought he was the greatest threat to Bush.

That might be the reason. No matter what we all like to think, Dems aren't stupid. They want to win. If Edwards carries his own state (I know, that's not guaranteed) and everything else stays the same as it was in '00, he wins the general election.

The other thing is that Edwards has been running as the "nice" guy (which as a trial lawyer he's had a lot of practice at), while Kerry, Gephardt and Dean were ripping each other to shreds. That may have helped him.

No. Dean has to win the New Hampshire primary to stay viable. Anything else isn't going to cut it... once a loser, always a loser.

Which now makes me wonder it would be a Kerry/Edwards ticket. I understand Edwards was quite upset with the remark but then again, politics makes strange bedfellows so perhaps that hatchet will be buried "for the sake of the party".

Am I the only one that thinks this so-called registered Republican who just surfaced for the first time since Vietnam seems to have a suspicious smell?

Why now? How do we know it's true?

I would not be at all surprised to learn it wasn't as it is being portrayed.

What's the reason for Edwards' surge?

He looks good on the cover of People magazine.

Didn't President Hart win Iowa? heh heh :)

As did President Gephardt ('88) and President Dole ('88).

I think your Kerry?edwards ticket would give Bush a run. Kerry has always frigtened me. Edwards is an empty suit but is in training for the big job. Sort of a clinton without as much Saavy. Kerry will run strong.

I think Kerry/Bob Graham might be a problem, especially in FL. But remember the last time ONE, never mind TWO sitting US Senators won the presidency.

basically said that Dean doesn't get it on how to run for president, belittling him for saying families are just used for props.

Clinton only got 4% of the vote in Iowa in 1992.

Harkin ran uncontested in Iowa in 1992.

Edwards also picked up the surprise endorsement of the Des Moines Register. I believe that gave him a late boost.

Harkin should be mortified. His endorsement amounted to squat.
