It looked to me McNabb was hit by his own player, therefore he would not be considered down by contact.

how many times do I have to point out that this is irrelevant? McNabb's position was equally prone to that of a QB who has taken a slide to give himself up. piling on him is beither sportsmanlike, acceptable, or legal within the current rules.

Take it up with the NFL rules committee, according to the rules currently in place, McNabb was not down.

Absolutely not. A QB who slides FEET FIRST is deemed protected. But a QB who slides any other way---i.e., diving, rolling---is NOT protected. Please read the rules before you post. A QB who has not been down by contact---as the refs said they thought was the case---is free to get up and run or pass, period.

YOu cant have it both ways, he cant be supre man who can pop to his feet rattle of a forty yard run, break a tackle by a 250lb linebacker... and then be defenceless on the ground, and not at all a threat..
