Rush's PERFECT comments Re: Donovan McNabb
me

Posted on 01/19/2004 9:26:26 AM PST by Pukin Dog

For those who missed it, Limbaugh performed the most perfect comments on Donovan McNabb this morning by not even mentioning his name.

Instead he contrasted the way that Payton Manning came out and took responsibility for his performance against the way that the media instantly set out to blame the Eagles' wide recievers for what happened to them.

It was the best revenge, because by not mentioning McNabb, no one in the media can say that Rush attacked McNabb, but to all us football fans, what Rush DIDNT say, was LOUD AND CLEAR. Thanks Rush!

>The FACT is that Rush did NOT make RACE the issue...he made the MEDIA making race an issue the point.<

No, it's Rush's OPINION that the media were treating McNabb differently because he was black. And, in either case, such comments were totally inappropriate for the show he was on.

It's Michael IRVIN, tool. And how does the fact that I think he's a idiot make me racist? All you have to do is watch the program to realize that.

Tom Jackson's one of the better ex-jock commentators on the show. He didn't agree with Rush.

Exactly... that's FOUR Lamarr Hunt trophies that the Bills
can always point to. There will definitely be more former
Bills players from those Super Bowl teams to enter the
NFL Hall Of Fame, after Marv Levy and Jim Kelly.

Yep. That is 3 more Lamar Hunt trophies than my Chargers have.

Concur on future HOF players. Bruce Smith (definitely), Thurman Thomas & Cornelius Bennet(maybe), Steve Tasker (should be but probably won't b/c he was a special teamer).

He doesn't hate him. He was just making a controversial statement at ESPN that Mcnabb was overrated(stats proved it at the time)and was the media's golden child. Once it blew apart Rush's dream job, I imagine he is somewhat bitter. Mcnabb was playing poorly and it was statistically accurate to say that he did not deserve the "second coming" treatment he was getting. I actually believe his comments inspired Mcnabb to improve. He ended up kicking butt after being criticised by Rush. He will be healthy next year and will see the playoffs again.

Rush should hang it up. He is never, ever going to be a football announcer on any network at any time.

One thing is certain, if he goes to the Super Bowl this year, it'll be on his dime. No NFL franchise owner will be extending an invitation, as in years past.

****Did he mention the Pats at all? Following their 2001 Season he inferred they didn't as much win the SB as much as St Louis lost. I'm just curious how he talks about N.E. now.****

I think back then Rush was upset that the patriots had beat his beloved steelers!

Tom Jackson had an opinion as much as Rush did. The subject that they were talking about was totally arguable and within the realm of sports. The NFL has a policy in place that teams must interview black head coaching candidates first before hiring anybody. By extension they want to see black coaches and black QB's do well. It is in their best interest to do so. Remember the stink that Jesse Jackson raised when the Packers fired Ray Rhodes? Rev. Jackson wanted an investigation.

The media also is desirous that a black QB (and black coaches) do well. To say otherwise would be naive. We're not supposed to recognize the color of a person's skin and yet sportswriters and sportscasters do it ALL the time.
For instance, what if Rush hadn't made the comments that he did. Philly goes to the Super Bowl and wins. What does the media do and say? They'll make a BIG point that Donovan McNabb is the second black QB to win the Super Bowl. They'll make comparisons to Doug Williams and NO ONE ELSE accept the white QBs that went but didn't win it.

And what about Tony Dungy? If he had won the SB, the media would have been fawning all over him, not just because he won the SB and was a great coach, but because he's black.

From Tampa Bay Online http://sports.tbo.com/sports/MGAIYWZZLPD.html

"There could have been history Sunday. Just as in 1999, Dungy could have become the first black head coach to make the Super Bowl."

IMHO, the sports media has almost as many left wing "journalists" as the news media...

Martz' decision was stupid...he played for the tie. He played not to lose.

Levy's decision was a smart one...he played to win and thought he had a capable kicker in that situation.

Norwood blew it...bigtime.

Are you related to Norwood? Can't you admit he blew it? A kisker in the SB should be able to make a 47yd field goal...the conditions are always perfect. Hell, Steve Christie made a 54yarder a few years later.

You must not watch ESPN's football pre-game show (or much football at all), if you think "politics" is discussed in such a forum. Now, ESPN does have shows like "Outside the Lines" and "The Sports Reporters," where they do throw "politics" into the mix, and the bias is uniformly liberal. I agree with you that sports reporters are as reliably liberal as any in the media.

HOWEVER, that doesn't change the fact that Rush's comments on the pre-game show were as appropriate as a fart in church. Moreover, the media's "black QB obsession" doesn't exist anymore. Culpepper, McNair, McNabb, Vick, Quincy Carter, Anthony Wright, Kordell Stewart, Byron Leftwich: all black QB's. It's not an issue anymore.

You can trot out as many convoluted arguments as you want and throw in everything but the kitchen sink and hope something sticks, but Rush was not only wrong in his assessment (IMO), but it was an improper forum to make that comment.

Since when is having an OPINION that the media was (and they were and are) treating McNabb a certain way because of his skin, is racist. It is NOT racism to point out OTHERS racism. You are as guilty as any liberal in this country of the same connecting dots that do not exist...The liberal media was and is guilty of what Rush was talking about. Jackson did NOT disagree with Rush about the media, ONLY that Rush was wrong (in his view) about McNabb being overated. At the time of the broadcast, McNabb was the LOWEST rated QB in ALL of football. Rush was saying "why is the media only asking about McNabb being the problem at Philly when he is the lowest rated QB in football...." Rush was right, Jackson was wrong.(Jackson is often wrong)

Rush went on to say that Philly made a good investment in McNabb, that putting all the credit and all the blame on McNabb was wrong...Rush pointed out that the defense had kept them in games the previous year and all the media wanted to talk about was "what is wrong with McNabb"...Rush asked why no one (the media) was asking what happened to the defense..and THAT makes the point...ALL THE MEDIA WAS FOCUSING ON when Philly was in the middle of their skid, was McNabb...CASE CLOSED.

You don't know WTF you're talking about. It's obvious that you worship at the Church of Rush and will brook no criticism of your idol.

You are a sad little person...believe what your childish mind wishes...you are LOSING this argument BIG TIME and so you simply take your bat and ball and go home....I worship at the church of TRUTH...and YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.

There were MANY sportswriters who wrote after the Rush episode that Rush was right (and he was). Or course, the usual Liberal fools made the same mistake non-thinking reaction predisposed crowd...like you (and Chris Hollinworthless) and keep poounding the same EMPTY drum....like lemmings you march forward with incorrect assumptions and froth at the mouth....silly little people.

You act like Howard Dean when you start losing.

"BS, the receiver made the crappy play publicly and on the field, no reason not to berate him in the same place."

And how many throws landed at these same receivers' feet after they had worked so hard to get open? Did they jump up and down and stamp their little feet to humiliate McNabb in front of millions? I guess they should have, huh?

"I have read here, and please correct me if this is not true, that McNabb did NOT blame the recievers in interviews after the game...it was the MEDIA"

No, McNabb blamed his receivers on the field during the game with his classless gestures after his own stupid interception. The media took their cue from McNabb himself.
