While McNabb's style is effective during the regular season, NO "scrambling" QB has ever won a Super Bowl to my recollection. For such a QB, once Option "A" is taking away, Option "B" had better be good enough to win the Big Game in the NFL. McNabb's "Option "B" obviously isn't.

Do a google search on BROKEN or FRACTURED ribs and finishing the game.

All I could find was hits on guys NOT playing because of broken ribs.

He wasn't down by contact, his own player was pushed into him and he then fell, he could have gotten up and made a play. He was fair game.

Actually, one of the interior defensive lineman got through and slapped McNabb's knee into the other, knocking him down. I don't know if the whistle blew, and I have no doubt the defensive player thought McNabb tripped over his own feet. An unfortunate occurrence, but a clean play nonetheless.

I hardly saw heroic efforts to get him back in there. We've seen these kinds of efforts a million times over the years with other star players, especially in such a big game.

His ribs must really have stiffened up on him, though, because after one of his ridiculous interceptions he was quite animated with his gestures in an attempt to show the world that the interception was the receiver's fault. A legend in the making!

Pure scramblers, no. But Staubach, Stabler, and Elway were great QB's who also happened to be great scramblers.

I have thought all along that his take on McNabb was born of Kordell Stewart's breaking Rush's heart (he is a Steelers fan) by doing precisely what McNabb has done--being an undisciplined athlete rather than playing within the system.

If anything, McNabb remains too much within the system, passing up opportunities to run (and utilize his greatest talent). There's nothing undisciplined about McNabb.

We can't know if they're holding him back or not, but I do know that with crappy receivers like that Marino wouldn't have put up great numbers. For a QB to have great number somebody actually has to catch the ball. Great receivers can make good QBs great (as Terry Bradshaw knows), bad receivers can make great QBs look mediocre (comparing the Cardinal stats for Plummer to the Bronco stats could be evidence of that, we'll need another season to know for sure).

As for him being overrated and overhyped, hey it's the NFL. During any given season there's at least three players and one coach getting more credit than they deserve, and they usually have counterparts getting more blame than they deserve. Such is life.

Someone else had mentioned that as well. I never saw that during the re-plays but it's entirely possible that one of the defensive guys got a hand on him low and nobody saw it.

I just take issue with people saying it was a cheap shot (and even the announcers saying it was a late hit) when the whistle never blew.

McNabb is a good QB and a decent guy. He hasn't blamed his receivers or bad mouthed his teammates. His injury is legitmate and he tried to play through it. Manning is a great QB and New England had him and the Colts offense scouted perfectly. You can say the same thing about what Carolina did to the Eagles. McNabb is not a political figure and didn't ask to be part of a controversy. I defend Rush to no end, and I've cut back a lot of my watching ESPN since they pushed him off, but there's no point in running down McNabb.

Exactly right. McNabb has handled this situation admirable from the start, and has not sought to capitalize on it or play the victim. However, there is a cadre of uneducated folks on this site who insist on badmouthing McNabb for something he had no part in.

The same folks who are quick to point out that Rush was talking about the media - not McNabb - for some reason insist on running down McNabb for the controversy instead of blaming the media for keeping the issue alive. Some irony...

Actually those gestures were to tell the receiver what he should have already known: NEVER under any circumstances under pain of death should a receiver cut BEHIND the corner on a slant. IMHO McNabb should have punched him and told the GM to trade the clown because he'd never be throwing another ball to that receiver again even in practice.

The quarterback is supposed to do more than throw the ball. He is the leader of the team. Had McNabb come back in the game, only to hand off the ball, it would have given his team a lift, and no one could say he tanked.

A leader also understands when his performance is hurting the team as opposed to helping it. I don't know who made the call in this case (Reid or McNabb), but one can hardly fault him if his injury prevented adequate performance on the field.

Wrong---all that comes up on him is his hip injury. Care to share any other "facts" you "know"?
