Rush's PERFECT comments Re: Donovan McNabb
me

Posted on 01/19/2004 9:26:26 AM PST by Pukin Dog

For those who missed it, Limbaugh performed the most perfect comments on Donovan McNabb this morning by not even mentioning his name.

Instead he contrasted the way that Payton Manning came out and took responsibility for his performance against the way that the media instantly set out to blame the Eagles' wide recievers for what happened to them.

It was the best revenge, because by not mentioning McNabb, no one in the media can say that Rush attacked McNabb, but to all us football fans, what Rush DIDNT say, was LOUD AND CLEAR. Thanks Rush!

it's clear that Rush dragged McNabb into a situation he wanted no part of.

That is so far from the truth. Rush was one of four five people on the show offering their opionion of 'what's wrong wuth McNabb'. That was the title of the segment, and what was written on the bottom of the screen. Each prepared ahead of time for the segment, practiced it on Saturday, and then performed on the Sunday show. They all singled out McNabb, and Rush's comments produced no issue from the staff or producers for 2 days when some wussy liberals spoke up. He didn't single out McNabb with his comments, the show did...and later the media singled out Rush for his comments during the segment.

Rush's comment were at least partly accurate. The media has been pushing the concept of the 'mobile, atheletic quarterback' for a number of years. 'mobile, athletic' means black. Rush's commentary was that the Eagles team is good primarily because the defense is good, but that the media had given McNabb a vast portion of the credit for their success. He attributed that to the promotion of the black quarterback. Rush used the fact that McNabb's QB rating was quite average to show that his onfield performance was really never all that great. In that aspect he is very correct.

I think it had more to do with that quarterbacks always get a disproportionate amount of the credit or blame for any team, regardless of race. I look at Kurt Warner, for example. His QB numbers were high, but I question whether most average QBs wouldn't have similar number given the offense around Warner at the time. Yet he was MVP.

yeah, and I'm sure you live up to all the phony machismo of pro football

It's not a matter of "machismo", it's how bad you want to win. Plain and simple.

I've been through it, it's not as easy as "cowboy up."

And I've played, for free, with more and worse injuries. Pain is temporary no matter how long it lasts and I can tell you that sitting out when you are needed most hurts worse than any damn physical injury. I know, believe me. So, yeah, it really is as easy as "cowboy up". Good thing I learned it in high school, it has really come in handy on active duty.

The guy played a whole game on a broken ankle last year.

Which kind of makes sitting out yesterday a little suspect. Thanks for proving my point.

How much is the NFL going to fine New England & Carolina?

Until they do something about "parity," this will be the case. The fact is that a team that can afford a great defense has no money or picks for good receivers/runners/QB. A team with a Manning seldom has star defenders. You have to be phenomenally lucky in drafting to plug all your holes, say, on defense (like the Panthers did) then come up with a long-shot free agent like Delhomme in a key position.

Look, for example, at Dallas: it was possible that both Troy Hambrick and Quincy Carter MIGHT perform like all-pros. Hambrick had a 4.8 average before this season, and QC looked to improve. They already had a defense and a (supposedly) good line. That didn't happen. But say those two do come on, it's Dallas in the SB, not Carolina. That's no knock vs. Car., just an observation of your basic point on "parity."

The NFL really needs to find some equivalent of the NBA's "luxury tax" that will allow a team to keep players as long as it is willing to pay into a "kitty."

The only exception to that is when a QB is running and he slides feet-first to the ground. Anything other than a touch in that situation can be ruled intentional roughing, or unsportsmanlike conduct.

If the QB goes to the ground without contact in any other way, he is fair game, like any runner.

Nothing. They'll just blame the Lions and fine them.

And if that's the case then you have to blame the refs for not calling the play dead, you don't blame the guy for doing his job when he had no way of seeing that and was instead listening for a whistle that was never blown

It's only a cheap shot if the play had been blown dead and he hit him anyway.

The bottom line is that McNabb was flat on his back, legs sticking up

Wouldn't it have been prudent for McNabb to get into a more protected position after falling down? I mean laying there with his legs sticking up in the air seemed a little foolish.

"Two white QBs in the Super Bowl "

see...I hate this....it always has to come down to race....

let's face it guys....Manning and Farve both blew it for their teams, and Marino never ever got a championship....

fact is, McNabb joins lots and lots of other quarterbacks that didn't get to the championship....I suspect he is as good as many QBs now but maybe not great...but who is?

I really hate the media blitz on his behalf though....

they piled it on some much that white football fans do feel a bit of vindication when one of the "chosen" few fail....

we watch football pretty regularly, but I wouldn't have known who the QB of Carolina was until last weekend, yet I know that McNabb likes soup and has corn rows and apparently very popular....

Go Panthers!

So much for serving truth. Rush's remarks were self-serving. The fact is, Philly's receivers were absolutely pathetic. McNabb played decently. McNabb and Manning were beaten by better teams.

I would take your bet, but instead of taking your money, I will again stress CHAMPIONSHIP Games, not just playoff games. Go do your homework. You will find that not all three games were CHAMPIONSHIP games, one removed from the Super Bowl. When the Raiders lost to the Steelers, it was a normal playoff game, where the Steelers then played Miami, and Miami won because of that daring fake punt. Remember? We can go on all day on this, dude. The point is CHAMPIONSHIP games.

Sheesh. Will you even bother to check your facts before posting? Raiders lost 3 (THREE) straight AFC CHAMPIONSHIP games (yes, the game before the Super Bowl) in 1973 - 1975.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/rai1973.htm

AFC Championship Game: lost 10 - 27 at Miami Dolphins

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/rai1974.htm

AFC Championship Game: lost 13 - 24 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/rai1975.htm

AFC Championship Game: lost 10 - 16 at Pittsburgh Steelers

I don't know why you keep thinking that I'm referring to the 1972 immaculate reception loss to the Steelers. I'm not. It was the NEXT year that the Raiders started their string of 5 straight AFC championship game appearances, losing 4. Stabler was the QB in all of them.

As far as Miami's fake punt, I vaguely remember watching the game, but the only thing I remember about it was the kickoff return for a TD Miami had to open the game. I think I was 5 or 6, so forgive me for not remembering the fake punt.

Correction: the Miami KO return for a TD was the Miami win over Oakland, not the Steelers. I misread the original post, and no, I don't remember the Miami/Steelers AFC championship game.

I heard Joe Buck's comment. He was saying in a roundabout way that the Panthers are good. Really good. Can't remember the phrase exactly either.

Don't you love the way the announcers during the game automatically blamed every incomplete McNabb pass on the receiver? One of the comments was particularly silly; "No excuse! He ran the wrong route, you just can't do that!" As if there were no possible way that McNabb THREW the wrong route. As if the announcer was somehow in the huddle, heard the play called, and in fact knew exactly what the route was.

Fact is, Rush's early-season comments on McNabb were at the time ACCURATE. McNabb RESPONDED like a champ by elevating his level of play. There's certainly an argument that someone being paid that sum of money to perform a job shouldn't need extra incentive like Rush's comments, but hey, crap happens, no one's perfect, and he did elevate his play. Since that time, however, the media have been sycophantic to McNabb in a disgusting display of the most wanton political correctness. Last night's game-calling by the announcers was just more of the same.
