Rush's PERFECT comments Re: Donovan McNabb

For those who missed it, Limbaugh performed the most perfect comments on Donovan McNabb this morning by not even mentioning his name.

Instead he contrasted the way that Payton Manning came out and took responsibility for his performance against the way that the media instantly set out to blame the Eagles' wide recievers for what happened to them.

It was the best revenge, because by not mentioning McNabb, no one in the media can say that Rush attacked McNabb, but to all us football fans, what Rush DIDNT say, was LOUD AND CLEAR. Thanks Rush!

Didn't see the play, but if a player is down and not touched by an opposing player, he is fair game, especially if he is in the pocket. That said, all the Panther player had to do was touch him. It truly is a judgment call, and depends on which officials you get each week. Had it been the Lions playing, it would have been ruled a muff and the other team would have got the ball.

The greatest media comment of the day goes to the in-booth analyst for FOX (not Aikman or little Chrissy Collinsworthless -- but the other guy). Prior to the Eagles game, he said something like: "If the Eagles lose this game, it's not because they aren't good enough to win."

Huh?? Talk about a policy of pre-emption!

Contain McNabb's scrambling and he's no more effective than any other NFL QB -- and arguably worse

I agree with that -- his scrambling is a big asset, and he's not so hot from the pocket. But also, the Panthers were continually in his face, and no QB does well in that case.

You are right. The other guy just doesn't know the NFL rule. A QB is only protected when:

1) He has completed a throwing motion.

2) He scrambles and slides FEET FIRST.

3) The whistle has blown.

4) He goes out of bounds.

END OF STORY. None of those four things happened yesterday. Now, I can't believe they didn't blow the whistle, but if the refs saw McNabbit stumble over his own guy's feet, and thought him capable of getting up and making a play, they were duty-bound to let the play continue.

No, you are wrong, Stabler took over for Lamonica in the playoff game against the Steelers (the imaculate reception game) in the fourth quarter. The score was 6-0, Steelers. Stabler scrambled for 30 yards on a broken play for a touchdown. 7-6 Raiders. We all know what happened next. The original point was THREE IN A ROW, not just three losses. I know my Raiders, buddy.

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here. Football is a team game. Both McNair and Manning (and to a lesser extent McNabb and Favre) have this mentality at crunch time that they have to take the game into their own hands. Tom Brady and Delhome never strayed from their assigned roles as part of the greater team. McNair and Favre almost pulled it off. McNabb and Manning just ended up looking silly. Must be something in that Mississippi water...

I hope there's someone from the NFL lurking here on FreeRepublic, because I'll tell you something . . . As exciting as last week's overtime games may have been, I have to say that the quality of play in the NFL has been downright abysmal for a few years now. Most of the teams that have played in the conference championship games in the last few years (especially in the NFC) wouldn't even have made the playoffs 15 years ago.

One of the most disturbing trends in the NFL over the last few years has been the tendency for these "incomplete" teams (i.e., missing a key ingredient -- like no passing game, or no run defense, bad special teams, etc.) to become the norm in championship games.
