Girl killed in park stunt
A 16-year-old Marysville girl died in a city park Saturday as she duplicated a movie stunt that involved a merry-go-round.
The victim, whose name was not released, died in S.J. Field Park on Rideout Way before 6 p.m., after she flew off a merry-go-round and hit her head on the street pavement, according to the Marysville Police Department.
According to witnesses, seven teenagers attached a rope to a truck and wrapped it around a merry-go-round, then watched it spin as the truck pulled the rope away from the ride. The stunt was previously performed in "Jackass: The Movie."

If there is a way for lawyers to make a lot of money out of this, they will.

Probably fewer than the number that have been maimed burned or killed attempting stunts they came up with all by themselves. Kids do stupid things, and right about the time they start out growing it they discover drugs and alcohol and start wanting to impress the opposite sex.

Do a study about how many idiots have been hurt doing the same stunts. Then compare that number to the number of people how have watched the show. The number of idiots will be very small.
Let's outlaw cars because of the small number of people killed each and every year, compared to the number of people who drive.
Did you people blame Evil Knievil for all the kids who were hurt jumping their bikes in the 70's?
Blame everyone but the STUPID PEOPLE!

I wonder if anyone did a study on how many 15-17 year olds I think that the movie in question was rated "R", meaning no one under 17 admitted without parental permission. The victim was 16; ergo, she either had parental permission, leaving her guardian responsible for her awareness of the stunt in the movie, or she viewed the movie without permission, therefore whoever either rented it or broadcast it is responsible.
In other words, the buck's going to be passed around very quickly here.

The underlying assumption here is that the Jackass folks are not accountable for the consequences of what they say or do -- they have no responsibility to the people in their audiences. This mindset is typical of Hollywood and libertarians. Agree. They are complete Jackasses. First time I saw it, I wanted to take a crow bar to that geeks head.
One of these shows the geek took a cow or something into a store and started sucking on it's utter, and all the ol ladies scattered. I was waiting for the cow to drop kick this freak, ring his bell real good. That would have been real funny. LOL!

"Darwin?" No. Immature teenagers doing stupid acts with someone losing their life. The driver of the vehicle will soon find out the cost.
Both. But also, the city will find out how much it costs too. This is just another playground related death at least as far as the tort lawyers are concerned. When they're finished I doubt there will be a merry-go-round left in the city. Of course the real losers will be kids who won't have play equipment at parks. They'll just sit around their TVs at home or their computers with high speed internet connections getting fat, so when they reach middle age they'll have arteriosclerosis and diabetes.

Why is it always blamed on the tv shows or the movies and not the parents? If you'll read my other posts, you'll see I also blamed the stupid, impressionable teenager, not just the Jackasses at Jackass.

I'm sure you can pick up some weebils on Ebay.
I was longing for the SSTs of my youth (the toy cars with the heavy fly wheel and the rip cord, that go about a thousand miles an hour), and found dozens of them there. Bought myself a mint condition purple one with jets on either side.
But I learned that the toys of your youth are considerably smaller than you remember them. It's still fast though.

However, knowing right from wrong frequently separates the living from the dead.
I think you are confusing morality with stupidity or reckless behavior for the soul (pun intended) purpose of flailing with the social conservative cudgel.

My son was 15 when he asked my husband and me to take him to see "Jackass, the Movie." I literally covered my eyes through much of it, but my two boys laughed and laughed at the idiots. That's just what they are - idiots.
We can't control what our children do 24 hours of the day, nor can we control what the folks in Hollywood call entertainment. Our children are going to be exposed to this and much worse. Why not watch it with them, tell them what you think about it, and listen to how they respond. You'll know if your child is likely to try one of these stunts.
To be honest, I didn't even know the show existed before seeing the movie. So I started asking, what else do you like watching son? Now I watch some of it with him. Viva La Bam.

This is a failure of public schools. They did not teach this poor misfortunate creature enough science.
She didnt know about the laws of physics, inertia, centrifugal force, acceleration and gravity.

Toys don't stop being fun just because you get old. Some people move on to "grownup" toys and play with cars or gliders or carpentry tools, some folks stick with the old and familiar. I still love legos, etch-a-sketches and slinkies (now that the metal slinkies have made a comeback, the plastic ones were an abomination), every home I've ever moved into the first thing I do is spot good run lines for Evel and/ or Hotwheels it's just an instinct I developed as a kid and it won't go away (and where I live now has a great 50' run to a jump onto the bed I'm just dieing to send Evel on).

By 2020, everyone under the age of 18 will have to wear an approved helmet at all times outside of their homes.
