Girl killed in park stunt
A 16-year-old Marysville girl died in a city park Saturday as she duplicated a movie stunt that involved a merry-go-round.
The victim, whose name was not released, died in S.J. Field Park on Rideout Way before 6 p.m., after she flew off a merry-go-round and hit her head on the street pavement, according to the Marysville Police Department.
According to witnesses, seven teenagers attached a rope to a truck and wrapped it around a merry-go-round, then watched it spin as the truck pulled the rope away from the ride. The stunt was previously performed in "Jackass: The Movie."

Let's say she reached a height of 6 feet, and rolled/slid for 12 feet -- leaving a distance of 60 feet in the air.
Using d = 1/2 a t2, it would have taken her about 0.6 seconds to drop six feet. Total flight time would therefore have been about 1.2 seconds, meaning that her speed was something like 50 feet/second, or 34 mph.
If we assume a radius of 4 feet for the merry-go-round, the ejection speed of 50 feet/second corresponds to an angular rate of 12.5 radians/second, or about 120 rpm.
We have to assume, btw, that the dumbass kids wrapped the ropes around the outside handles of the merry-go-round.

They also said she was a loving caring person, who often smiled.. "She cared for everyone," said Khristy DeLeon, 16.
The smile was due to the G forces.

I think a lot of people are missing the real point...was there a label warning about the risk of death on the merry-go-round? If not, both the manufacturer and the park will be sued for big bucks for negligence. Was the access to the rides carefully controlled? Did everyone involved sign the appropriate waivers? That's how the lawyers will spin this.... :)

They know damn well some dumb 15 years olds are going to mimic this sh*t. It happens all the time. There is no need to broadcast this bullsh*t.I wonder if anyone did a study on how many 15-17 year olds have been maimed, burned (horribly disfigured) or killed by attempting stunts seen on that show?

Why is it that every person who dies doing something REALLY stupid, turns out to be a "loving, caring person who was just starting their life over", instead of "a wreckless idiot with a dangerous need for attention"?Because at least at the age of 16 many loving, caring person who was just starting their life over or in this case just starting their life, are also, very often, wreckless idiot with a dangerous need for attention.

One of the participants said he knew about the warning on the video but said something to the effect, 'we're just kids, you see it (the warning) and whatever, think they did it why can't we do it?' Hmm...tell me again how minors should be allowed to have abortions without Parental Notification? What was the reasoning?!?!
So kids are not responsible enough to read and follow warnings...yet they should be given a learners permit and the keys to a 3000 lb. weapon?!?!
Both-sides-of-the mouth arguments here...the rules only apply when it suits the defense lawyer!
Sorry the girl's dead, but that's what you get for doing STUPID HUMAN TRICKS!!!

Show like that have nothing to offer but stupidity, and pending tragedy. The underlying assumption here is that the Jackass folks are not accountable for the consequences of what they say or do -- they have no responsibility to the people in their audiences. This mindset is typical of Hollywood and libertarians.

In any event, you can bet the rent there are lots. Kids do stupid things all the time. It's part of growing up. They know kids out there are going to copy these stupid, thoughtless stunts.
Shows like Jackass and a few really ought to be put out of business. I know this probably wont be done, as common sense is no longer part of broadcast television or Hollywood.

I know this probably wont be done, as common sense is no longer part of broadcast television or Hollywood. Why is it always blamed on the tv shows or the movies and not the parents? I always hear about Lieberman wanting to ban tv shows or videogames because they are somehow perceived as dangerous, yet he never takes the parents to task for raising idiots.
