POWAY, Calif (AP) - A mother rushing to get her son to school in San Diego County was arrested and jailed after a chase by the California Highway Patrol.

The 10-minute pursuit Friday morning ended outside Del Mar Pines School with the arrest of Stacy L. Taylor for investigation of evading arrest and child endangerment.

At what point does 16 mph over the speed limit make it worth a 10 minute car chase? With a kid in the car? After you have the license plate of the driver and have gotten a look at her face and can ID her again?

Well, she was running from the police. That would make on suspicious of her intent. Maybe she kidnapped the child.

I'm betting that even though we will probably know for sure, she will have a black eye and/or bruised cheek after her dream man bails her out of jail??

Not taking sides...she broke the law and got caught...I have been in law enforcement before and after her explanation, i'm not sure i would have "roscoe p. coltrained" her.

But then again, you have to take into account the liability aspect..if she had hit someone and a late night cable advertising lawyer found out the cops had her and she ran and they didn't chase her to her death...in kalifornicate, what do you think the settlement against the state would have been.

I've seen women work true wonders of idiocy simply out of spite.

We've also been known to turn on the waterworks and regale Mr. Policeman with a heart-wrenching and completely imaginary sob story about our miserable lives, when pulled over for speeding. Sometimes it works.

Grabbing the cop's ticket book and stomping on the gas is a tactic I have never tried, though.

After she decided to leave, she ran several stop signs, and apparently went speeding through the school zone. In that case, you have to consider whether or not her driving constitutes a positive hazard, and she needed to be stopped, as opposed to merely tracked down later. It's a tough call, and could go either way -- but given that the cop didn't really know her intentions, a cop might reasonably assume that this lady, who's obviously disturbed, might go so far as to try to kill herself and her kid by forcing a head-on collision with some other driver. (I guess it's a somewhat popular form of suicide.)

This is a seriously disturbed lady, and I think Dear Old Dad probably bears some looking-into as well.

I really feel for the poor little kid. At school he's got to live with the stigma of having a crazy mom, and at home he's got to live with a crazy mom (and maybe dad).

Five points.

First, no where in the article was speeding in a school zone mentioned.

Second, under current code interpretation a motorist must come to "a complete rest" for at least two seconds before proceeding through a stop sign or it is a legally rebutable presumption that the motorist "ran the stop sign". Many Californians violate this interpretation of the code section, even at busy intersections and are not cited.

Third, the article did mention that the woman obeyed a traffic light during the "pursuit".

Fourth, the article mentioned that the woman reasoned that the citation could have been as easily administered at the school as at the point of first offense. A reasonable conclusion.

Last, no where does the article state that the motorist was speeding after the initial stop.

The woman's poor judgement with regard to public property (the citation book) and her definace of authority certainly warrented careful examination but hauling her off to jail was an obuse of authority under color.

But if my wife was screaming at me that we'd better not miss that 50% sale at TJ Maxx then I might be tempted to go for it.

Fleeing the police is enough to get anybody hauled down to the station. And that's the way it ought to be.

point being, if the cop could ID'er again, knew her address etc., was the chase necessary?

She was going to get a ticket --- the husband would have then yelled at her for getting the kid to school late AND getting a ticket. This way he doesn't have to yell about the kid getting late.

I spent an hour last week trying to figure out how to post that exact same picture on an "abusive grandmother" thread.

It was in my download files, downloaded from an e-mail. Would you mind telling me how you posted that for future reference? (And please keep it simple -- I'm a computer illiterate blonde - LOL)
