As a disclosure, right about 20 years ago, I acted in selecting a Harken Rig for an independent oil company to operate in South Texas although it was not in anywhere near as nefarious a capacity as dealing with the BCCI ("Bank of Crooks and Criminals"). It was legitimate business in a different period of time when the U.S. had a viable domestic oil industry. In another coincidence, I worked for an Austrailian over in Indonesia who had knowledge of the well mentioned offshore Bahrain and thought it was bizarre at the time that the drilling contractor was Harken Energy (I thought that it was also strange that any drilling would take place off of the island/nation state of Bahrain which has no offshore oilfield but abundant banking facilities on land).

What really disturbs me is how uninformed the vast majority of Americans are and that they did not realize that former President George H.W. Bush actually left the oil industry in the 60's because of an ulcer suffered from worrying over operational problems with an offshore rig (Zapata Offshore Co) (he literally did not have the stomach for it, as further evidence, remember Prime Minister Thatcher telling him "Not to Be Wobbly" before the First Gulf War) so ex-President Bush went into a field less stressful in the 60's - politics.

Also, little if any mention has ever been made, to this day as to the reason and real justification for U.S. entrance into the First Gulf War. Saddam Hussein had taken over Kuwait as well as the Neutral Zone between Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was very clear that Hussein's next step after consolidating his position (I would have done the same thing if I was in his place) would be to take over the enormous offshore Safaniyah oilfield off of Saudi Arabia which was just a 30 minute "drive in the park" from the Neutral Zone which he had occupied.

This book from Kevin Phillips could have potential dire consequences, even treason? for President George W. Bush's 2004 Election if the media decided to pursue the story but I am skeptical since the media is more concerned with promoting themselves and Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson etc. than digging out and for a real story.

I should point out (although certainly some Freepers will know this) that the Carlyle Group is the firm contracted by the Saudi Arabian Government ("outsourced") to represent their interests in the lawsuit filed against them by the survivors of the terrorism attack on 9/11/01. Think about that, the Carlyle Group is going to represent the interests of a foreign government against Americans.

Sometimes it scares me at the inside information I possess that the American people are not even remotely aware of because of the collective, pathetic, uninterested nature of the American media (reactive not proactive). I am even surprised that Kevin Phillips's article saw the light of day.

BUMP. His new book is on my list.

The Cashbox of Jihad is basically untouched so far.

How Bush manages to cut through the Gordian knot of Oil, Defence, Saudi, Texas, large extended families intertwined with business, intelligence and government, defines our age.

Worthy of a Shakespearean play or a Gothic Opus.

Keep the Gravy Train going until a replay of Iran takes place, seems to be the play.

Don't fogret the Build-a-burgers.

Why would a reasonable person even write this:

There is no evidence to suggest that the events of Sept. 11 could have been prevented or discovered ahead of time had someone other than a Bush been president.

That says: "Ignore my incessant nonsensical ramblings." Why would someone even include such a sentence?

A backhanded inference on the author's part, to be sure.

I am not averse to the suggestion that the Bush's have significant interminglings with Saudi oil interests, nor am I uncognizant of the fact the some people turn out to be bigger players than others when it comes to world history and economics. Cannot begrudge them these interests, benefits, and ulcers.

But I am not about to attribute more power or blame than is necessary in any case.

"There is no evidence to suggest that the events of Sept. 11 could have been prevented or discovered ahead of time had someone other than a Bush been president."

>> TRUE: If any such plot were ever proven true, Alger Hiss would look like a saint.

"But there is certainly enough to suggest that the Bush dynasty's many decades of entanglement and money-hunting in the Middle East have created a major conflict of interest that deserves to be part of the 2004 political debate."

>> TRUE: We still have strong political ties with Riyadh and they still hate our guts.

Since this information is out, I assume that no harm will come to Kevin Phillips.

I am even surprised that Kevin Phillips's article saw the light of day.

Are you kidding? This old fart hates the Bushes. He even turned against Reagan after he, himself, credited his own book "The coming Republican majority" with getting Reagan elected.

The media love Kevin Phillips. He gives them exactly what they want.

Well that is not comforting then, since he is accusing the President of treason.

That's the strategy I love.

Kill the messenger, ignore the message.

Refuse to even look at or acknowledge what young King George has wrought with his virtually treasonous l'affaire amore with the Saudis.

What a joke the so called WaronTerror is while the Saudis are given a big fat wet kiss and oh so much more by the Bush Administration.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Project for the New American Century in your post. Every other buzz phrase used by the Democrat seminar callers on C-SPAN is in it.

If you're worried about Kevin Phillips' health, don't be.

Nobody in the conservative camp gives a damn about an old screw like Phillips.
