Mexico will work closely with U.S. President George W. Bush and do all it can to help his proposal to overhaul American immigration policies become a reality, President Vicente Fox said Saturday.

During his weekly radio address, the president said the Bush plan would help millions of undocumented Mexicans living and working in the United States "obtain legal status and proper documentation."

but we can also say that it changes the lives of about 25 million people since five members of each family would have the right to go there and be with a loved one already working in the United States."

Only if they have a flippin verified job!(according to Bussh's guidelines)

These kind of details have not even been talked abpout, much less passed by congress.

Fox is out of his mind.

This is good. Mexico has been notoriously difficult to deal with about keeping their side of the border shut, since they depend on that money. And we can't keep it closed from our side alone, especially if Mexico doesn't follow up on the people smugglers and other criminal operations on their side.

Giving these permits lets Mexico keep most of that money and will take away one of the things that has encouraged them to turn their border into a massive security risk for us. Not only Mexicans come across that border; every day we arrest Chinese, Arabs, and others being smuggled across. And I would suspect that at least some of them have something other than picking lettuce in mind.

Things must be going swimmingly in Mexico if Fox has run out of problems to address there and is now going to campaign to fix America.

If you remember Fox is the one that let this immigration idea be known before President Bush announced it. So I would say * the five extra family members that seem to be included now,* that has never been mentioned by the Pres. is something that was discussed at the Summit.

Actually, he is in fear of loosing his job.

Unfortunately, the "old guard" will be comming back into power (my prediction) and these guys make Fox look like a choir boy.

I am in favor of the Bush plan if congress does not muck it up.

The effect of it will be wide ranging on both the numbers and the illegal employers.

The stick is there, assuming the congress critters write it in.

"They could emerge from the shadows, retain their workers' rights and be totally respected once this proposal is approved," Fox said.

Does anyone really think that "after they emerge from the shadows" that they are going to change their behavior?

Does anyone really think that illegal mexicans will somehow stop giving false identities in hospital ER's and start paying for health care?

Does anyone think they'll stop running drugs in from old mexico?

Does anyone think they'll start getting drivers licences and start buying car insurance?

Does anyone think they'll stop committing huge amounts of crime?

Does anyone think they'll even bother to GET A "WORKERS CARD"?

Does anyone think they'll quit working under the table and start paying taxes?

Given the government's complete failure of enforcing existing immigration law, does anybody think the government will start enforcing this new bullshit plan?

If those Mexican Illegaliens are given American citizenry, does that mean they lose at least 52% of their property ownership in Mexico, or will that sly old Foxx be abandoning the restrictions on foreign property ownership?

If we can't kill the Illegalien issue, let's force this dog to bite the owner's hand.

Livius, you are right.

This is a security issue, above all else.

GWB has left the underbelly of our county porous.

If we do not secure our borders, we might as well let Muslims with guns on our planes.

is something that was discussed at the Summit.

I seriously doubt it.

They are pretending to try to like the plan, but they do not.

The plan would give the U.S. political cover for many future deportations and will eliminate many of the jobs that they currently are seeking.

Those of us who can see this fact will support the plan, but the devil is in the details.

We will have much to say about the details as the plan is argued in congress.

However, I do not expect it to pass for at least a couple years.

And we can't keep it closed from our side alone

Horsehockey! We could shut the southern border in a matter of weeks with National Guard and the military if Bush weren't pandering for votes from hispanics. The administration doesn't even have a clue how many illegals are here. The administration can only say "roughly 8-12 million" are here. Simple math tells me that's a 4 million person spread and therefore it could be as many as 16 million illegals here given the stated accuracy of their count.

It should be a PRIVILAGE to come here to live and work, not a gift for breaking the law! And no, I seriously doubt that everyone flowing over our southern border is here to pick lettuce.

If President Bush is a conservative then who needs liberals?
