My family has been here since the early 1800's, ... and it's my home. An answer I respect. Too bad you're surrounded and outnumbered. (And on the verge of being overrun)

I am a "little" late getting back into this, been busy lately. I am happy to see the dialogue I opened up with my remark. I totally agree with you about gun owners needing mandatory safety, proficiency, etc training. In my remark I intended to mean leally licensed concealed permit holders, who would have been required(at least here in Oregon) to undergo such training. I did not, in any way mean that if there were a couple of dudes with Uzis, they would pull them out and begin spraying. That would have made the situation worse, which seems to have been your opinion of my remark, and in THAT case, I would agree with your reply.

Thank you.
What did you think of my proposal at #75?
"The only way I may part with the purists on this is that I would have people who own guns have a common sense background check and pass a citizenship and shooting safety and competency course. With such a license (for lack of a better word) you could purchase any gun you felt like owning without registration. The govt would know that you have the capability and the desire to own a firearm but not what you own or even if you own any at all."

Doh! Just did something with the wrong key, slip of the wrist, and had to restart the CPU and change some settings back, grrrr.
Change the name to something like Firearm Competency Permit, and include a CCW with it, and we are in total agreement.

It is so simple. But we are no longer a nation for the simple solution. Our founding fathers never wanted an armed rabble but disciplined, competant armed citizen yoemans independent of the authority of the govt as a check on the govt. Everything else is positive with the ownership of guns is gravy.
