WASHINGTON -- In an election-year slap at filibustering Democrats, President Bush sidestepped Congress yesterday and installed Judge Charles Pickering of Mississippi to the federal appeals court after a battle filled with racial, religious, and regional argument.

Bush elevated Pickering by recess appointment, simply putting him in office while Congress was out of session. Such appointments, bypassing confirmation, are valid until the next Congress takes office, in this case in January 2005.

Democrats have accused Pickering of supporting segregation as a young man

Hey Senators Kennedy and Kerry .. where did you send your kids to school??

Take a guess where Pickering sent his kids .. go ahead .. take a guess

Oh and another question .. Why didn't the Clinton Admin sentence the two other guys involved with the cross burning case .. when Judge Pickering did sentence the 3rd guy?

Highlighting Kerry's extreme and vicious smear of Pickering, a man who was a civil rights activist in Mississippi at a time when it was physically dangerous:
Senator John F.['n] Kerry of Massachusetts, a Democratic presidential candidate, told an audience of 150 at a campaign stop in Guttenberg, Iowa, "Here we are on a weekend before a national holiday when we celebrate Martin Luther King's birthday, and George W. Bush celebrates it by appointing Charles Pickering -- a known forceful advocate for a cross-burner in America -- to the federal court in the United States."

Perhaps the President could say that every judge that he nominates who doesn't get a straight up or down vote in the senate will be appointed whenever congress goes into recess. Since republicans control the times congress meets, the RATS couldn't keep Congress open, and some leverage would be applied to allow judges to get their vote. What ya think?

Reading this article, I can't help but be reminded of another one ...

Entrapment by Bush:
He plays Democrats for fools,
and they always rise to his bait

______________________________________________________

I just can't help but think that Dubya is setting the 'RATS up again. They will beat on him during the campaign. He will let them go a while. Then, after they've let it all hang out, he'll start telling the story of Pickering and how Pickering actually worked FOR JUSTICE, and AGAINST RACISM and HATRED. The 'RATS will look very small and ugly, and will be exposed to the American people, the voters. They'll be exposed for the LYING OBSTRUCTORS that they are. And the 'RATS will pay at the polls yet again. Gotta love it !

"The president's recess appointment of this anti-civil rights judge the day after laying a wreath on the grave of Martin Luther King is an insult to Dr. King, an insult to every African-American, and an insult to all Americans who share Dr. King's great goals," said Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts. "It serves only to emphasize again this administration's shameful opposition to civil rights."

Senator John F. Kerry of Massachusetts, a Democratic presidential candidate, told an audience of 150 at a campaign stop in Guttenberg, Iowa, "Here we are on a weekend before a national holiday when we celebrate Martin Luther King's birthday, and George W. Bush celebrates it by apponting Charles Pickering -- a known forceful advocate for a cross-burner in America -- to the federal court in the United States."
