So how do you plan to show your allegiance to America? By throwing your Republican vote away, thus making some liberal's vote count doubly. Your high-toned principles are very nice on paper, but unfortunately they have real consequences if you get your way. A liberal could take the presidency if enough self-described conservatives desert the party. Did you like the Clinton years? Did they teach the Republican party a lesson, which they'll never forget? Or did they just cause irreparable damage to this country, and result in more liberal ideas being accepted into the mainstream? This was the lesson of Perot, the one which you want to repeat, to 'send a message.' Insanity. My only hope is that I think most conservatives, like me, are not so fool-hardy.

Well, this may be the most sensible thing I've read here all day. I agree totally. Remember Perot, causing Clinton to get a plurality, securing a democRAT victory? That's the lesson these fools want to repeat, in the hope that THIS time, it will work, that Republicans will, after 4-8 years of more socialism, suddenly swing further right. Unfortunately, last time we did that, the country simply slipped more and more to the left, and we almost lost again in '00. If not (in my opinion) for Rush, the internet, and FoxNews, we'd be about where Europe is right now.

Read the thread again, sport.

Another poster was asserting Reagan was re-elected after granting amnesty. I was pointing out that he granted amnesty 2 YEARS AFTER being re-elected.

Your apology is accepted in advance.

How was it misreported? If anything, that 1000 jobs were created are a lie. The "unadjusted" numbers show that we lost over 200K jobs last month.

"Some here would rather have a Dem as president ( and Dem Houses to boot, from what they say will be their vote preferrance in Nov. ), than President Bush."

And conversely, some here worship at the altar of the the (R) -- no matter what.

The President underestimates which issues are definitely "message," or priority issues for his base constituency. One issue obviously is his position regarding the Illegal Immigration issue; The other, the Abortion issue...

Should Dubya join the Pro-Choice forces, how many of you would have vehemently objected to that?? Or would the business of voting (R) remain "business as usual"?

According to EVERY poll asked, about what are the top concerns of the populace, immigration, illegal or otherwise, doesn't make it out of single digits, at the very bottom( if it shows up at all )of the list. What heads these lists ? Safety/terrorism, the economy ( though that has slipped, with the improving of the economy ), paying for health care/meds, and education.

No one here " worships " at the alter of the R.

What we understand and you don't, is that it is of paramount importance to unseat/oust as many elected Dems as is humanly possible. We, unlike you, understand that ALL GOPers aren't Conservative, but that the more GOPers we can elect, the more Conservatives we can get in and cow the Lib GOPers. Again, unlike you, we also understand that this is the ONLY way to go. Fringe parties have NO power at all, except as spoilers.

Some people see the glass as 1/2 full; some see it as 1/2 empty. You guys see NO glass at all. Like the dog in Aesop's fable, you want to take over the manger and forbid the cow her place, and you don't give milk! You want a place that you can't hold, but would gladly deny it to the one who can. You cut off your nose to spite your face types, DO want a Dem elected, rather than President Bush. That's the height of insanity!

"... I was pointing out that he granted amnesty 2 YEARS AFTER being re-elected..."

You weren't clear about that. Re-read your post, and it sounded like you said that he retired two years into his presidency. If I misread you, then I apologize.

You did, and its no problem.

BTW I LOVED President Reagan, but count among his few mistakes the Simpson Mazzoli Act, passed late in his term when the Bush faction was gaining in influence within his administration. GW really needs to take heed of the hard lessons learned - he ought to listen to what old Alan Simpson has to say about the subject today.

Since that hasn't happened, it's a moot point. If a Republican became more liberal than his rival in this dark fantasy election, I guess I'd vote for the most conservative candidate who had a chance of winning.

Yep, I couldn't agree more. Seems we were on the same page the whole time. If only GW would find a veto pen that he really liked... Also, I'm afraid that I'm a hopeless optomist. I can't help but think that after he's re-elected his real, hard-core conservative side will come out. Ok, maybe it's just day-dreaming, but one can hope, no?

Found this link from Mo1's page.

This list of accomplishments does put things in perspective.

Great compilation!
