BTW I LOVED President Reagan, but count among his few mistakes the Simpson Mazzoli Act, passed late in his term when the Bush faction was gaining in influence within his administration. GW really needs to take heed of the hard lessons learned - he ought to listen to what old Alan Simpson has to say about the subject today.

Yep, I couldn't agree more. Seems we were on the same page the whole time. If only GW would find a veto pen that he really liked... Also, I'm afraid that I'm a hopeless optomist. I can't help but think that after he's re-elected his real, hard-core conservative side will come out. Ok, maybe it's just day-dreaming, but one can hope, no?
