..."the constitutionally valid immigration laws..."

This is a nonsense statement, to say the least. OK, they're constitutionally valid. That doesn't mean that it's unconstitutional to make new ones, or contrary laws. It's unconstitutional to be against what is in the constitution, not to be against laws that are constitutional. I really hope you can see the difference.

What would you think of Tom Ridge as the nominee in 2008? Former Marine, Earned a full scholarship to Harvard and graduated cum laude. If Homeland security isn't violated by any more spectacular terrorist attacks, could he be the one?

Tom Ridge may be a good man but I will always associate him with that nonsense about the having the roll of Duct Tape handy in case of a terrorist attack. It's a standing joke around our household. I don't think I could vote for him.

don't care what the experts like my ex-husband says about it.

Forgot to add that I personally know two border patrol agents and they disagree with your ex-husband as well.

Only those with a vested financial interest in the slave trade think President Bush's proposal has good intentions.

I have to reply to this -- but I'm just shaking my head and don't know what to say. Its a few minutes later and I'm still shaking my head. Slave trade? You must think Bush is a really evil bastard out to destroy America and Mexicans. Still shaking my head -- I do NOT understand where you are coming from.

>> Did he think with his popularity so high he could get away with it?<<

I think so. He's been wanting to do this since before he took office, who know why.

Think back...Thanksgiving dinner with the troops...YESSS!...captured Saddam...YESSS!...riding high, why not drop the big stink bomb now?

'Cept I don't think he realized how much stink it would cause. He knows NOW.

But those here on FR that are just skulking around, sniffing out any thread that they can b***h and moan about this garbage, don't care what the experts like my ex-husband says about it.

You know, before your post I had been thinking what a disaster all of this socialism is going to cause for my future grandchildren. Then you came along with your "expert" ex-husband's opinion (who I trust immensely, even more than I do you) and cleared everything up for me.

Thank you for the expert input. I now know that socialism is good and I will now welcome the illegal exodus from the Southern hemisphere.

Good post. All the shallow ones are posturing themselves to say "I told you so" if Bush loses, and if Bush loses, we all lose, just like we did when his father lost. The enemy is among us.

Possible result of pandering to criminal aliens?

Roger that. Apparently Bush and Grove hope the tempest will pass and that enough illegals will remember this gesture to vote "R" in the next few elections, while enough conservatives forget this blasphemy. So what if the Republic is undermined, as long as a "R" is re-elected next year. Feh.

Well if that is true, than standards certainly have plummeted. I'm a Centrist. A moderate. And if he can't meet a few of my issues, what hope is there? Conservatives support small government, small spending, limited foreign involvement, tax cuts, etc. If you are a Conservative that is what you support. He ran as a Conservative. It is up to him to uphold that agenda. That is not extremism. That is simple Conservative values. Anything to the Left of that is Liberal. What does that tell you about not only Bush but many of the Republicans here on this site?

Agreed, but I want to tell you a sickening story. I worked with an older, right wing, tough as nails ex marine. 100% NRA material. This idiot voted for BILL CLINTON because the elder President Bush called Clinton/ Gore "bozos" in a speech near the end of the election. He didn't think that was dignified enough. So he turned this great nation over to left wing idiots who believed in nothing he did, because of one throw away line in a speech. That is how temperamental some conservatives can get. And Clinton/ Gore are bozos.

It just so happens that we have the detractors of the president show up in posts that are slighting to him (like poll slippage numbers) or the Immigration policy where some conservatives do not agree with his policies. On the majority of the posts here, it seems that most conservatives seem to admire and like the President as do the vast majority of republicans.

The Bush-bashers are having a Howard-Dean panic attack.

PhiKapMom has posted the actual remarks and policies of the president.

His immigration proposals have caused the dwarves to become apoplectic.

The most strident detractors know the least.

We're at a historic point of reversing the terrorist tide, and seating a filibuster-proof Senate majority.

If you're waiting for someone to round the illegals up by the millions, dream on. You didn't see Ronald Reagan attempting that in 8 years, did you? Don't worry, I'm sure Howard Dean will do a better job.

Amen!!

Your glee is astounding.

This type of thread brings them out of the woodwork, doesn't it? I wish the third party groupies would bring forth their savior candidate so they'd have someone to support instead of just griping and threatening to defeat President Bush.

Hmmmmm? Historically it's a shame President Bush's plan isn't an amnesty.

LOL. I happen to back the President's loosely defined plan, the devil, if any, will be in the details when there is actually some legislation. As a matter of politics though, I am happy that the President got his word in instead of having to react to the Dems at a debate or on the campaign trail. Now all the Dems are left with is to further define a policy. As I said, that's where the devil really is.

"I am terrified of the attitude I see here."

Be worried about the election, the Dem's understand the significance and are going to pull out all the stops. At the same time, I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing here.

Honestly look at the folks who have been the highly vocal Bush-bashers. They are the same one's who were so shrill during the last election while campaigning for their third party hacks. You do recall the Bush snorting coke dancing figures and all that crap?

The better then Governor Bush was doing in the campaign the shriller they got and the more they demanded...exactly counter to what most folks in this nation who consider themselves conservative thought.

From the pitch of their howling now I'd say the President is doing a pretty good job.
