[history]
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Secretary of State Kevin Shelley announced Friday his office would investigate allegations that city employees were forced to work for Mayor Gavin Newsom's election campaign.
"These accusations are serious in nature," Shelley said. He said his Voter Protection and Fraud Investigation Unit would look into the charges.

The article isn't real clear...
The street cleaners were part of a 45-member crew employed by the urban gardeners group who work under contract with the Public Works Department.
Good question... I sure hope there aren't any ill... illl... illegals in that group. :-}

I still don't understand how someone can "force" you to vote one way or another. At least in my district, they won't even allow anyone to enter the booth with you (except for small children).
What's to prevent someone from voting as they want when the curtain closes? After all, it's not their fault if the candidate loses.

These guys are street drunks and addicts they dress up in hard hats, orange vests and brooms. It's just another Delancy Street type shakedown outfit.
Looks like the Gonzales crowd is making noise...

I wonder which job they got: packing the ballots into the heavy metal boxes, or throwing the boxes into the bay.
