Obviously, the unappeasables always find a reason to be perpetually angry.

You're right. Some folks are just looking for a reason to be mad. I get angry with the President sometimes but, just like when I get mad aty my wife, I just can't stay mad at the guy.

'Tis a great day up here in the land of cheese and beer. Pickering's a judge, the Packers fired their "defensive coordinator", and the Seligs are selling the Brewers (now only if Bud steps down as commissioner before 2006).

If President Bush makes a principled, popular move, he is accused of pandering to his conservative base. (See recess appointment of Pickering.)

A recess appointment is a principled move?

LOL, come on now! Are we stooges?? Like this is NOT a coincidence??

No, this appointment was made now ONLY because the White House panicked when they saw the light of the torches and shadows of pitchforks on the horizon. Dubya's thinly veiled Amnesty Program had rattled the cage of his base far more than he'd thought.

I see 'Wag-The-Dog.' Nothing more.

Whoa! This came outta nowhere...I wonder if he has seen and heard the conservative backlash about the amnesty plan. He may be gearing up to appoint more of these.

Bush had better start doing something right, because Dubya needs to remember who brung him to the dance. And the partners are looking at third party dates right now.....why not?

Seriously -- And you don't think the timing of this appointment was in the least coincidental?

No, it is just one in a stream of actions taken before the SOTU. There is always a flurry of proposals, personnel announcements and new legislation in the year prior to the elections. From this point on there will be nothing on anyone’s agenda but the election.
