I saw her some time ago on tv and was under the impression she had quit drinking.

Did Dean just say high school kids are going to decide Iowa?

Thought Ivins was going to have a nervous breakdown when Ma lost the election. She kept writing about the loss for a long time like someone died.
The entire mainstream media was that way. I recall the Dallas Morning News describing Ma Richards as an "immensely popular governor" just a week or so before the election. Yes, she was immensely popular, but only with the press corps and a few liberal special interest groups.

Dubya showed immense class when running against Richards. At debates, she would hurl demeaning insults at him and he would always respond politely. It made him look good and her look like a foul-mouthed, bitter old fool.

"EEsss next --- Day Vare!"

LOL! One of the best TV adds of all time. Apparently the Russians were pretty peeved at it (according to Vladimir Posner).

A schoolteacher that when she was Governor had the kids take the TAAS test at the beginning of the year. Only problem was it was the beginning of the year they were being tested on. One reason test scores when up when Pres Bush took over is that they moved the test to the end of the year so the students actually had learned the material before testing.

All I know is that she was active in RAT politics -- she is from the East Coast not from Texas.

I remember that -- the look on his face was priceless. What a hag she was. Do you remember that Dan Rather first called the race for Ma, then too close to call, then about five minutes before she threw in the towel, he mournfully said that GW was the winner and then asked how Texas could have defeated such a gracious woman as Gov Richards. I almost threw something at my TV. Last time I watched Rather.

MA was born in Lakeview Texas and graduated from Waco High School and Baylor. Got her teaching Certificate from the UT.

How old is Ma now... in her early 70's I think
She graduated from Waco High School in 1950 so I would guess that she was born around 1932. It's always steamed my mother that Ann Richards is a half-decade younger than she is but looks 50 years older. Seeing Ma Richards just makes mom feel old.

I didn't know that and is Vadmir Posner still alive? I haven't heard that name in years!

You really did not have to do that -- I was fine without seeing her on LK. LOL!!! She looks horrible but then I cannot remember when she looked good.

When she came to San Antonio she talked about her East Coast roots and how much she enjoyed the East Coast -- what was with that? I assumed she was from the East Coast. Then when she took the job in NY she talked about going back to NYC to live.

Looks like the same "Governor Pruneface". Those CNN make-up people do a fabulous job. I wonder if they work at funeral homes when they aren't busy at the CNN studios?

And if they cremated her, she'd burn for 10 years.

When she croaks, at least the state of Texas won't be charged with the expense of an eternal flame!
