Yes, it sure is an amazing place, there are warning signs along the way listing the amt. of deaths to people who passed certain points into bad weather. I hiked in August where is was 70 degrees at the base and 40 on top.
What amazed me the most was seeing planes flying below me.

Yup, over a hundred schools in Massachusetts canceled school tomorrow, including mine. A snow day without the snow.
My students (middle school) didn't believe me when I told them the news, but they were jumping for joy when they realized I was telling the truth.
I don't know the factors that played into the decision, but I can imagine that there would have been more than one diesel school bus that wouldn't have started, and many teacher's cars will have dead batteries in the morning. It's hard to run a school without a full compliment of buses and teachers.
Being responsible for a district full of kids of all ages is not something I would want. Kids here just don't have arctic wardrobes (unless they ski). I guess they just chose to go with the safe option. These really are unusual and dangerous conditions.
No one is going to be happy about making it up in June, though.

Yup, got a little chilly today and yesterday, suppose to be worse tommorrow.
I spent the day outside thawing out my Jeep. My coolant was good till today. It froze up on my wife early this afternoon. Thank God I have the warm gear.

In the early 80's the thermometer froze at -55 in downtown Leominster. I lived right around the corner from it. I had 3 cars and none of them would start.
My tenant owned a 70 Maverick, piece of $hit, it started no problem. I had to take my car to a garage and warm it up before it would start.

Fine, powdery snow fell across much of the region, with the mercury dipping into the single digits in some places, and 20 and 30 degrees below zero in others So much for it being "too cold to snow."

Here in South Florida it was like the Arctic last night. The temperature PLUNGED to about 52 degrees last night and about 2 AM I woke up and had to shut the windows. It took until about 1 PM before the temperature was able to reach the mid 70s. I don't know if I can take another night like that again.

Global Warming cultists have a convoluted rationale asserting that cold snaps such as that being borne by Northeast are further evidence of Global Warming.

I lived in Ledyard! We lived in housing, out by the back gate. My husband was on the Augusta, SSN-710 ('91-'96).
Not long ago he was talking about standing topside watch and how awful it was in the middle of a cold winter's night.
