The Spectator is right: the Dems are playing for 2008...so who do WE want to run in 2008

OK, gang.

Barring a catastrophe or another 9/11 attack, it's pretty much a given that President Bush will be re-elected in just under 10 months from today. That's been already listed here on FR today. And Jay Currie has a VERY good point. The Dems KNOW they've already lost this election, and are using it to position for 2008 and, God Help Us, Hillary.

Who do we have / want who is in position to run for the Republican nomination in 2008 ???

Given that President Bush would want to have his successor continue his policies, who you all of you think is a worthy successor to George W. Bush, and our best defense against the Hildebeast ???

The problem that the Democrats still have not faced is that Dean would get rid of Terry McCauliffe if he got the nomination, effectively shutting the Clintons out of the control of the party. This has been Gore's aim for the past year. Gore has a big grudge against the Clintons and plans to get even through Dean. Gore doesn't even care if Dean wins or not, if Dean gets the nomination, Gore wins. MoveOn has been the pawns in this game and right now Gore has them on his side. These people are not going quietly back into the phoney centrist fold, they are tired of the pretenders and feel as though they have waited long enough for a national voice to fight their battles against capitalism and the so-called establishment.

Well, in 2008 we can run the next George Bush: George P. Bush as the Vice President with Condi in the top spot! There we go. Black, Hispanic, and woman's votes all together! After Condi is done, Bush 3 can create a new bit of history.

Tancredo thinks he can kill the Guest Worker program in Committee - so does Elton Gallegly who sits on the House Judiciary Committee.

Bush 3 can create a new bit of history.

And pave the way for Bush 4? What's that kid's name again? I don't remember. Brilliant kid, though.

GOP politicians generally know a pretty face when they see one, I guess. Laura Bush, Cindy McCain, etc. Norm Coleman's wife Laurie's pretty, too, but he used to be a Democrat.

Rudy/Rice 2008. That ticket wins NY and NJ, no way the Dems can win without those two states.

Regardless of whether she elects to run for office: I think Condi Rice is as smart as alleged, because her accomplishments are outstanding. I'd be interested in hearing why you think she is anything less than very bright. Incidentally, I have yet to see a documented reference on her stance regarding either abortion or immigration.

As far as Rudy goes, I have enormous respect for the man. I know his wife was not supportive of him in his second term. But I think his judgment was poor. Divorce your spouse if your relationship is irrevocably over, then commence another relationship. There are very few excuses for adultery. It does not mean I won't vote for him, but it does tarnish him somewhat in my eyes.

I don't think he'd be the man for '08. That man would be Rudy the "G," with Ms. Condi as his #2
Maybe not, but he sure can raise the cash! I'll bet he could out-do GW!
Unfortunately I think a Condi run would end up bringing a 3rd party in, assuring the Dems a win. Kind of like "What's his name" -getting old, can't remember names, helped split the vote and put Klinton in.
I don't trust her at all.

Rudy for Senate, Owens for Pres. sounds good to me.

Although, I'd like to hear what Condi Rice has to say, she's interesting.

I like Rudy as much as the next guy, but he'd never make it through the primary, and frankly, while I'd take anybody over Hitlery, and he'd be great on economic, foreign policy, and crime issues, even me, Mr. Big Tent, would be a lttle queazy about him as Pres. because of abortion and gun control.

Also, nobody has mentioned it, how about Bill Frist? I like the guy more and more as time goes on.
