McNabb Can Withstand Any Rush [Limbaugh]
Washington Post ^ | 1/15/04 | Leonard Shapiro

From Limbaugh to Blitzers, Eagles' Quarterback, Donovan Mc Nabb, Has Persevered. Donovan McNabb and his Philadelphia Eagles teammates would prefer not to be remembered as a team that played in three straight NFC championship games and lost every one of them, including two at home.

"Really, it doesn't motivate me," McNabb said Wednesday as the Eagles prepared to play the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, with a trip to the Super Bowl in the balance. "At times, it ticked me off. I'm just being a man about it. You go on and prepare and you can't get it done. Well, you use that as a little fuel to the fire. . . .

When they beat Carolina they were healthy. They are anything but healthy now, as witnessed by the yardage Green Bay racked up on the ground. If I was plunking money down, I'd put it on the Eagles, but I would be the first to admit that choice may be more sentimental than rational.

You're right about the real Super Bowl being played in New England this weekend, but I have to disagree with you about the outcome.

It's freezing in the North East at the moment and a dome team is going to get a real shock out in those elements. Combine this with the Patriots defence and I don't see Manning doing what he did in Kansas City last weekend, in 50 degree weather.

I can also see Brady picking apart the Colt's defence, which looked very mediocre in KC.

The Patriots look awful tough at the moment to this impartial bystander.

Green Bay didn't get much more ground yardage than the first time they played Philly. And even with all that the Philly D only gave up 17 points. I don't count Carolina out of any game, it's a gritty team, but I'm standing by my prediction that Feb 1st will feature the Pats beating the Eagles.

I go with the analysis that Rush comments did in fact push him. I also go with the fact that the defense interceptions help too.

It it not SOP to blame the recievers anyways?

The media will vote him MVP no matter how bad he plays just becsause of Rush. It is a sympathy vote. They now have TWO excuses to give his a free ride.

Excuse me, have you heard the transcript of that debacle.. If you are truly honest to yourself you must admit that it is mcnabb "playing ability" that was referred to.

Warren Sapp's racist comment "Do we not have anybody that understands that there's way more scrubs in this game that are Anglos than there are black ones that are being pumped up? Trust me, it's not even close" got very little media coverage. But, of course, Sapp is black so he pretty much got a pass from the media.

"Why is this so difficult for the sports media to understand or accept"

Because the media and the NFL are desirous that a black quarterback succeed.

While I thought Rush's statements were stupid (the black thing, anyway) I hate everything having to do with the Eagles so I have to agree, McNabb is over-hyped.

Rush has nothing to prove. An accurate comparison would be all QBs that played 16 games this season.

I agree: he functions more like a running back. Of course,
that becomes an advantage when he has to scramble.

They ask questions of McNabb like: "How are you doing, big guy?" as if he must be crying himself to sleep every night. What a delicate, sensitive creature a sports media person must be to get so upset. They're all in need of counseling now. Chris Collingsworth weeps openly. Tom Jackson's wittle wip is all aquiver...

I hope you're joking. If not, these people are in need of serious couch time.

"I don't think he's been that good from the get-go."

I thought Rush said "Maybe he wasn't that good from the get-go.

Anywho, Rush's pick this weekend includes the Eagles over the Colts.

If that's really what Rush picked, he must be back on the drugs.
