Immigration Policy: Last Straw For Conservatives?
Accuracy In Media ^ | January 13, 2004 | Paul M. Weyrich

Now, however, the President has come up with a policy decision that may cause enough of his coalition to vote for a third party or to stay at home. I believe his re-election is endangered if the race turns out to be close.

Every single e-mail I got focused on the national security aspect of this question. A few also mentioned the abandonment of the rule of law.

Whatever his motivation, he is making the oldest mistake in politics. He is abandoning his base.

The greatest concern of his base is over national security.

You're assuming quite a bit. What I told my congress critters was that this loyal Republican of more than a quarter century would not vote Republican in the future. I told my congress critters that illegal immigration was a national security nightmare. I told my congress critters to inform Karl Rove that I would be joining the Constitution Party. I informed my congress critters that I was putting country before politics

Yada, yada, yada, same old, same old. Well have fun out there in the 0.2% wilderness.

Bull shite!

Only someone with a true death wish would turn over this country's security to a Democrap in 2004. I'm for Bush all the way and any American who values his chances for survival, and those of his family, will also vote for Dubya.

Hysteria not necessary -republicans will control Congress.

In Federalist #51, James Madison stated, "But it is not possible to give to each department an equal power of self-defense. In republican government, the legislative authority necessarily predominates."

I don't care what he does, unless President Bush changes his name to Clinton, I'm staying with him.

The "devil made me do it" hasn't convinced too many people. I doubt if reference to the Lord will be any more successful. A stinkaroo is a stinkaroo no matter how you try to shift the blame.

What you could have gotten was an actual, real, functional immigration law. But you told your congress critters to go for the same old same old, which hasn't worked for years and isn't working now.

Our existing immigration laws are quite comprehensive; we don't need more new laws. The only reason the existing laws don't work is that our spineless politicians in DC refuse to enforce them.

You are just the person to answer a question that has bothered me for years!

Why would anyone have voted to re-elect Clinton?

No kidding. There is an ample selection of enforcement tools on the books already, both for use against illegals and against their law-breaking employers. Unfortunately, we have a President who has decided that touching those tools would jeopardize both his reelection and globalist goals.
