[history]
Below is the text of Howard Dean's letter to President Clinton on the conflict in Bosnia, dated July 19, 1995.
After long and careful thought, and after several years of watching the gross atrocities committed by the Bosnian Serbs, I have reluctantly concluded that the efforts of the United Nations and NATO in Bosnia are a complete failure.

Oh, my...another foot-in-mouth moment. I wonder if anyone will ask Howie if he thinks Bosnia was a more dire national security threat than Iraq? Was our preemptive action there, any more valid than what was done in Iraq? And if our cause was only for humanitarian reasons, to stop the killing, than isn't the removal of Saddam an even worthier goal, since he has killed more? Oh...and if the UN/NATO alliance was a failure in the former Yugoslavia, why in the world should we go back to them to lead the effort in Iraq? The hypocrisy never ends.

Usually when a liberal calls in and reaches utter defeat, 9 times out of 10 they fall abck to "get over Clinton".

Right you are.
Follow the money.
If Slick and the Bitch can control the slush funds they can allocate between competing races and earn IOUs. They do this through Clark and McAwful. But if Dean takes the nomination, he will seize the treasury and work a revolution in the Party.
It will be easy for him to take the party left and difficult to bring it back towards the middle thereafter. The history of the left, whether the Rat Party or Bolschivism, demonstrates an incredible tenacity in holding on to power.
To: finnman69
It looks like the three top 3 RAT candidates (Dean, Gephardt and Kerrey) will split 75% of the vote in IA. The result from NH will throw Clark into the mix and going into SC the four will be pretty much tied.
I think that Dean is then TOAST.

I checked the DUmmy site for a few this AM, and there is one thread talking about dumping Zell Miller for his actions the past few months. They are so unhappy at DU.
Yes, I did go clean up before I got back on FR.

Last time I checked, there were a lot more Iraqis murdered than Albanians. Serbian murder is more severe than 300,000 to 1,000,000 Iraqis? Also, you haven't heard him cry much about the 2,000,000 Ruwandans that were murdered. I guess he only considers murders of whites to be genocide.

He is lying about a judge reviewing and releasing his records too. The Vermont Attorney General is asking the judge to toss the lawsuit and keep the records
sealed.

The Clintons have been behind Clark from the "git-go". However, do not make a mistake and believe that they want him to win. That is the last thing they are working for. They know that there is enough on Clark to sink his presidency, but a Clark loss means they retain control of the party through 2008.They certainly want Clark to lose- that's the point. I also disagree with those who predict that Hillary will be Clark's running mate. I don't think she would benefit from doing that and it would make the fact that Clark is just a puppet too obvious.

Dean's comments in the 1990's about foreign policy were sane. For example, I thought his comments, then, on French foreign policy were lucid - and electable.
But he's now decided to go after the anti-american loony left vote, so he's sunk himself. To change in the general election will be hard.

I'm with you on this one, Granite.
Except for his entirely gratuitous and false slur upon the Church of Rome, Dean was right in this letter. We don't need UN approval.
However, his facts are wrong. To pick sides in the Balkans, especially the Muslim side, was sheer folly. Especially since the ethnic cleansing certainly was done by all sides.
The Serbs were (and are) no angels. The Croats are not saints. But the Bosnians and Albanians are surely devils in this conflict.
