BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. forces in Iraq have captured a former Baath party leader and No. 54 on the U.S. military's 55-most-wanted list, a military spokesman said on Wednesday.

"As a result of aggressive operations this week, the coalition announces the capture of Khamis Sirhan al-Muhammad, number 54 on the most wanted list," Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt told a news conference in Baghdad.

"He was captured as a result of a combined operation of the 82nd Airborne Division and Special Operations forces," he said, adding that Muhammad was captured earlier this week.

Muhammad was a regional chairman of the Baath party for the Kerbala region, south of Baghdad, under Saddam Hussein. He was captured near the town of Ramadi, about 65 miles west of Baghdad and a focal point of the anti-American insurgency.

"He was an enabler for many of the resistance attacks on Iraqis as well as U.S. and coalition forces, attacks which were crimes against the Iraqi people," Kimmitt said.

"The capture of number 54 means we have taken another significant step to reducing anti-coalition resistance."

Earlier Wednesday, U.S. forces seized four nephews of Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, No. six on the list and the most-wanted fugitive still on the run in Iraq. Ibrahim, a former right-hand man to Saddam, has a bounty of $10 million on his head.

>>Is this one the 3 of Diamonds?

Nope, he was one of the three with no playing card.
WE here at FR took credit for his capture in August when
the U.S. FIRST announced his capture.

He's already crossed out on the list we maintain, click
on my name and you'll find a link to that list.

There is only a little dispute on ONE NAME... Centcom has
NOT yet crossed this one off:
No. 45: Nayef Shedakh, Baath Party regional chairman, Najaf governorate, reported by Iraqi television to have been killed in battle for Najaf.

I show him possibly killed too, but centcom NEVER said.

But I think about a week ago, the U.S. offered $1 Million
for all the remaining 55 most wanted and Nayef (Nayif)
was not in that list, so maybe it's safe to cross him
out too. I see some of the media is calling the remainder
the DIRTY DOZEN. I'll review this again tonight

Silly me! Of course he has no playing card. There are 52 cards in a deck of cards. (next stop: writing that out 100 times ...)

As always, thanks for the updates.
