Conservatives Should Support the President Now and in November Becauseā€¦
Jewish World Review, January ^ | January 13, 2004 | Martha Zoller

…They Asked for His Kind of Leadership

You hear it in the coffee shops all over the "red areas" of the map. Everyone knows that is where the real politics is discussed in America. Conservatives are asking themselves, "What was the President thinking?" They might be talking about No Child Left Behind, or steel tariffs or the signing of many less than conservative bills.

In the coffee shops in the "blue areas," liberals don't sit around much. They are too angry and busy to stop for a while but many are thinking that President Bush is the most conservative president in years, since "oh, my God, Reagan," and he must be stopped.

Both of these assessments cannot be true and after spending years looking at politics, I took my first serious stand on a candidate in 1968 at the tender age of 9, if both sides are mad at you, you are probably on the right track. So why should conservatives and moderates support the President, now on issues and later this year at the ballot box?

-snip-

Based on the history of this President, we better not count him out till we see how things unfold. He is what conservatives asked for in a President. He cut taxes, got our economy going again and lives and breathes the safety of this country and the people in it. When it is all said and done, George W. Bush does what he believes is right for the American people and he is willing to stand on his record in November.

FR has some of the smartest, funniest, insightful, and politically aware people in the country. The discourse here is like nothing you would find on liberal board. Bush's plan is just that, a plan! Its not a law. It is to be debated and then sent to the legislature. Im surprised so many posters are ignoring this fact! It can be stopped without allowing Dean in. C'mon people! I dont like this plan, either. Nor do I like that Kennedy Education foolishness. But politics are about compromise. A true liberal or conservative has to make too many deals to attain the leadership positions in this country. Thats just the way it is. Like Bill Clinton was forced to the center, so has Bush. And before you start with the Constitution party or the Libertatrians, rememebr that they too, will have to compromise. There is no such thing as a true blue conservative in the oval office; they have to make too many deals to get there. Im not willing to let Dean or Clark, or worse, Hillary in over this..

You do nothing but continue to bury your head in the sand.

I see. Because I don't agree with you, I have my head buried in the sand?

The worst of it is, and you can't seem to see it, is that you are exactly, exactly the type of woman you used to demonize during Clinton's presidency.

Well, since you've only been here since December 10, 2002, how on earth would you know that? Retread?

He never had a majority in the House.

So RR never had a majority in the branch where spending bills originate?...and if I remember correctly he had a senate for maybe half of his eight years.

That makes a bit of a difference in governing and spending, don't you think?

And please, don't start talking about Judges as Hillary is thoroughly kickin' Bush's butt up and down Constitution Avenue in that department.

Yada, yada, yada.

You will see the difference in the 2004 vote when we DO stay home or vote 3rd party.

Bush hasn't signed a tax increase like Reagan did. And Reagan never signed a piece of anti-abortion legislation.

And by the way, I would take a tax increase for the military anyday. And only then. And, when was Reagan given an abortion bill to sign one way or the other?

Who did Bush and the RNC turn to when Gore and the Rats tried to hijack the Presidency?

Thousands, perhaps millions of die-hard conservatives and grass-roots Republican supporters across the country took valuable time off away from family and worked our butts off to support Bush against the Florida recount fraud.

Sinkspur, please don't paint those who criticize Bush as "Bush bashers" or "third-party whiners." We like Bush because he's a decent man and a strong wartime leader. If he'd just exert the same principles in his domestic policies there wouldn't be any of this beef here on FR. Get a clue!

I will not be used the same way the Democratic party uses African Americans.

Excellent point! Maybe we should start referring to the Bushbots and Limbots as 'house conservatives'.

Amendments to the Social Security Act designed to secure the program for several decades.

I.e a hike in the Social Security Tax.

U.S. forces bombed Syrian targets in Lebanon - We haven't heard from them recently now have we!

And he cut and run after the Marine barracks bombing in 83. Also I guess you mean not hearing from them is because they are to busy in hiding saddam's WMD's.

Like I said I respect Reagan and think he was a great President but I also know that he had to deal with the politics of his day, just like Bush has to. I cut Reagan some slack, you guys would have a heart attack if you cut Bush any slack. Instead you all would rather help the demos.

The static we're hearing is from the Death-Before-Electability wingnuts.

They and their ilk kept the California GOP wandering in the electoral wilderness for years.

God, don't embarrass yourself.

You have become the Bush version of the Clinton swooning soccer mom, plus years of course. Why? Why in God's name can't you admit when he's wrong?

He has a Republican House and Senate

A Senate basically split down the middle.

No more knee jerk rants.

Maybe we should start referring to the Bushbots and Limbots as 'house conservatives'.

And maybe we should refer to the recent influx of Bush bashers as "liberals"

The far-left lunatic fringe vote against Bush isn't going to amount to a pinch of sCENSOREDt.

You are correct. It is the far-right vote that will do him in.

Better yet, to quote one of the Kool-Aid drinkers. (Soon to be Tampico drinkers)

Vote Bush because having a middle class is too hard.
