[history]
Republican Haley Barbour pledged to have a colorblind administration while campaigning for governor. However, of 10 key agency heads he has appointed in preparation for taking office, all but one is a white male, including an appointment announced Monday.
Barbour introduced Wallace Conerly, retired vice chancellor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, as interim chief of the Division of Medicaid.

My goodness, he must be appointing what he thinks are the best people for the jobs at hand. How dare him!

Republican Haley Barbour pledged to have a colorblind administration while campaigning for governor. However, of 10 key agency heads he has appointed in preparation for taking office, all but one is a white male..."However"? That seems an inappropriate adverb, implying as it does an apparent conflict between the goal and the outcome.
No such conflict exists. Change the word "however" to "consequently" and the sentence would be closer to the truth.
Note also the use of the word "Republican" as the first word in the article -- as if the people of Mississippi were unaware of the affiliation of the Governor-elect. Since this is an attempt at a negative article, it is of course vital that the word "Republican" be prominent.

Yep, there does seem to be a logical inconsistancy here, doesn't there? That word is the first thing that struck me, too. Ever wish you could just slap someone thru your computer?

At the risk of being flamed by my own MS ping list pals, I will say this: Barbour's inauguration party was not 'diverse' enough. 3 country music acts? That's just not good PR, IMHO.

in the 70's and 80's
Larry Gatlin now sings gospel music.
Percy Sledge is gonna be somewhere.

Speaking of just wanting to "rock" look at the beginning of this song from another Haley article:
>> "Hey baby, I've got big plans for me and you, so put on that tight dress, you know the one that always tells the truth," Azar sang. "It's been a helluva week..." <<
Woo-hoo.
