About 12 or 13 years ago, I was hunting grouse up in the UP. Caught some shadows out of the corner of my eye, but they didn't start, so they didn't notice. Figured it was a bunch of coyotes, so I'm standing in the middle of a two-track with a single shot 16 gage.

Well lo and behold, this rather large black bear saunters out about 20 yards in front of me ( fortunately, my colon wasn't full ). Well, it snorted ( warning signal ) and bolted into the woods, followed by two cubs.

Thought to myself, " wow, that was kind of cool, even if a little disconcerting ", and took a step forward only to hear some rustling in the grass. Thought the best of it and stepped back, to have a third cub come tumbling out.

We stared at each other for a few seconds before the third cub went after momma.

I've seen all kinds of bear sign up there recently. Also know of a situation where some bear hunters were warned about a wolf pair training their cubs. Hunters kept sending dogs into the 'perimeter' of the suspected area of the wolves. Hunters got smart after the 3rd dog didn't come back. Wolves killed all three.

there is definetly "no need for that" in San Diego California.

There's no need for McDonald's either. I propose all McDonald's be shut down. After all they contribute to the inhumane treatment of cattle.

So, what is it you do for enjoyment?

Whoa Tex, simmer down :)

We're on the same side here and I think you misunderstood my meaning. I don't think I expressed myself well enough, after reading it upon receiving your response I do think we are on the same side and I do think that what we both said is valid. I'm apologizing right now for the way my original comment came across, I tend to get my shorts in a bind when it comes to hunting because I want my boy to be able to enjoy the outdoors and the Hunt just as much as I have.

(there are far too many people who ARE on the side of hunters, who suddenly get squeamish when it comes to Trapping, and I agree, trapping gets a bum rap in the press if it's not handled properly)

I still tho think that those of us who are on the side of hunters in general should step up to the plate and help the Trappers.

Else what happens when they come for us?

"So is a Big Fat honkin fleece blanket..."

So you're against fur, but you'll steal the environmental protection from innocent sheep, and let them suffer while you snuggle in a blanket made from their fleece. Nice one, that.

I agree coyotes are a nuicanse basically out here people just run them over, they should be caught and euthanized instead of being ran over constantly

So your point is, it's OK to kill animals, it's just not OK to enjoy doing so?

Actually, that story was printed in an NRA publication. I tend to believe its veracity.

The Bible also says before Adam sinned that the lamb and the lion lay together, we actually did not have permission to eat animals until sin entered the garden. See it was never G-d's intention from the beginning that we did eat animals it was only after sinful acts came into exsistence.

Ok. Once again, you should read your Bible. It is not good to have zeal without knowledge:

Genesis 9:1-6

God's Covenant With Noah

Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. "But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man.

"Whoever sheds the blood of man,
by man shall his blood be shed;
for in the image of God
has God made man.

I said in the Garden of Eden...
Not by the time NOAH came around the lamb and the lion did lay together, which tells you what about Animals when they were first created? Adam was eating fruits and herbs in the garden and did not eat any animals is that not correct?

but the thrill of the stalk was what I liked. The feeling of a sucessful ambush or of spotting and breaking the ambush (only in training, I've never "seen the elephant") is very much like that in hunting

I agree. One good reason to learn to hunt is that it prepares you in a small way for the ultimate hunt - warfare Heaven forbid we should ever need those skills for that. But we see today some of our men in arms are having to use those skills in that way. It is *irresponsible* IMO to not learn to do it, in case you ever HAVE to provide for your family in that way.

Being a woman I doubt I'd be any use on a battlefield but if I was in combat the idea of being a sniper comes closest to appealing to me. That or spec ops (Ok, ok I can only fantasize... doubt I'd have the mental discipline to do it.)

But I tell ya, after 9-11 I was regretting not having joined up 13 years earlier when I was 18. Again, I doubt I would have qualified because of medical issues. And at 18 I wasn't interested.

That would scare the hell outta me, especially with the cubs there.

The two I saw were about 250 years away and didn't notice me. They were too busy eating something there. I first thought I was hallucinating from being in a deer blind for awhile. "No, that's a tree stump, not a bear. Holy !@%! it's moving. It IS a bear!! There's another one!"

Um no, you said:

we actually did not have permission to eat animals until sin entered the garden.

I already acknowledged we live in a fallen creation. We as a species get most screwed up when we keep trying to enter the garden utopia again.

The story is false. Coyotes and wolves never attack children, or man unless they are laid out dead, or near death.

Child bitten by coyote in yard
San Diego Union-Tribune
July 18, 2001

A coyote bit a 3-year-old boy in the right leg as the child played in his family's yard, authorities said yesterday.

Kaushik Saikumar was attacked around 8:15 p.m. Monday. He was treated at a hospital for a puncture wound and rabies prevention therapy before being released, said Irvine police.

The boy was playing in his yard when he was bitten. The boy screamed and his father distracted the coyote by throwing his shoe at it, allowing him to grab the boy.

Officers located the coyote, which continued to be aggressive, and shot it. The coyote's carcass was taken to the Orange County Animal Shelter for rabies testing.

me too! Sheesh. There was a sow with FOUR cubs regularly vandalizing people's garbage and birdfeeders in my mom's small town, and I didn't find this out until a few weeks *after* my girls had been there, sleeping outside in a tent in the backyard!!

DNR wouldn't do anything. I was about ready to go up and sit in my neighbor's backyard with my bow, after recruiting someone to haul it away should I be successful.

"Actually, that story was printed in an NRA publication."

Dogs will attack people of all kinds and kill them and not for food. That's why packs are not allowed to roam. Even though the story is from the NRA, there is no known case where a human of any age has been attacked, unless they were in a condition I gave before. Yet livestock and pets are routinely prey. This shouldn't be taken to mean you can leave babies out alone unattended for a long time.

The coyotes are studying the situation and they know the baby is an adult human's kid. If it was a little dog it would have been grabbed to become dinner.

They watch, but are not stalking. They nail the yuppies' pooches all the time. Most folks just find the rindstone collar. No toddlers have been grabbed.

Vicious coyote sunk its teeth into baby's cheek
Lora Grindlay
The Province; Canadian Press

A coyote attack on a Vancouver infant has revived the call for a large-scale coyote kill.

The little 14-month-old girl was attacked in the front yard of her home in the 2900-block of West 22nd Avenue, while her mother was gardening just metres away.

Her mom — who was picking weeds when the coyote quietly wandered up to the baby — scared the beast away with a kick.

The baby suffered two puncture wounds to her neck and a large cut on her cheek that needed 10 stitches to close.

"The coyote actually had attached and bitten the child in the face area, and was holding on to the child," said Vancouver police spokesman Det. Scott Driemel. "The coyote sunk its teeth into the face and the cheek, and was shaking its head back and forth with the baby's head in its mouth."

The baby was in good condition in hospital yesterday after the attack Monday at about 8 p.m.
