Bush's horrible, more-of-the-same, illegal immigration "plan" has my blood boiling.

Me too. I am incensed that even our government goes off shore rather than use Americans. Then they turn around, create a phony "shortage" and the next thing we know, we're stuck with taxes that we can barely pay to subsidize that cheap labor that benefits a few. I've simply had enough and will not support that mindset any longer.

He did not refer to the American worker and taxpayer as the "little man." Methinks he applied it to the faux compassion for the illegal alien, though.

You are twisting his words to fit your context, not his.

There's a saying popular in this part of the world; "You don't shoot a prize bull for *****ing in the pasture."

Has Bush signed and proposed legislation that I disagree with? Yes. No politician alive today can do everything I want, all the time. Do I intend to support the Rat or a hopeless third-party candidate as a result? No.

And is your only objection to my posts that fact that I AM sneering at DUers and Libertarians? Which one are you?

My objection is that you are not refuting my argument or offering support for Texasforevers. You're merely playing nasty.

Which one are you?
Neither. LOL I'm a former Republican that drew the line somewhere between CFR and his first talk of amnesty. I'm now a registered Independent.

I could forgive Bush for the education bill without vouchers, the new prescription drug boondoogle, even the campaign finance bill. But the amnesty for illegal immigrants (which is what it is, regardless of euphamisms) crosses the line. Illegal immigration is a greater threat to this country than Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda can kill thousands of Americans. If they got their hands a nuclear weapon, maybe even destroy an American city. The open borders with Mexico that Bush and Fox are working toward will destroy the American middle class and the fabric of our society.

I'm afraid I can't see much hope, and I have no solution. The Pubs in congress are saying they doubt this will pass in and election year. Clearly the implication is they will wait until safely after the election then screw us. I have voted for every Republican candidate for president since 1980, but not this year. Voting for a Dem is not an option. But I recently moved and am not currently registered. I don't plan on bothering to do so. I have nobody to vote for, and at least I won't get called for jury duty.

But you don't let him stay in the house, either!

No politician alive today can do everything I want, all the time

But I would expect that list to be extremely short from someone who claims to belong to the same party as I.

When I manage to figure out exactly what your argument is, I'll be more than happy to refute it unless of course I agree with it. From what I've been able to gather so far, you believe that Bush is the socialist antichrist masquerading as a Republican, and should be run out of town on a rail. I can't say I agree.

I'm a former Republican that drew the line somewhere between CFR and his first talk of amnesty. I'm now a registered Independent.

Good for you; may you enjoy every nanosecond of supporting and voting for candidates who have no chance of actually winning. However, that does beg the question "wouldn't you be happier over at another site," where the TLB and the Eschoir play? In my short tenure here on FreeRepublic, it has become apparent that most posters here believe that Bush is the bee's knees and that third-party candidates are nothing more than entertaining irrelevancies in the grand scheme. But hey, its a Free Republic.

LOL. Anyone who keeps livestock in the house has a screw loose, in my humble opinion. All manure-spewing creatures belong out in the pasture where their byproducts can do me some good.

Seriously, all I really want from politicians is for them to stay out of the way, defend the homeland and keep the roads paved as necessary, and keep their hands off my wallet while I succeed. Rats get in my way and they've got their hands on my wallet most of the time, while Republicans tend to not be so grabby. Third-partyers on the other hand tend to let the homeland defense and the roads go to rack and ruin.

As flip an answer as this is, Bush in my mind embodies the most, best qualities of what I seek from a politician.

I agree. But there's limit to how many of our key issues we'll swallow. I've watched him pass far more of Kennedy's key issues than mine.

It takes many different opinions to make a horse race. I just hope that my horse's new digs aren't a bottle of Elmer's in November.

Its been fun. Goodnight and hope to yak later.

I agree with all you've said. But I refuse to allow them to silence me. Don't give them that power over you. VOTE. It doesn't even matter much who you vote for, but don't let them win by staying home please.

I'm voting for Tancredo to poke a finger in Bush's eye...that "never darken these corridors again" line when Tancredo tried to speak to Bush about immigration. The arrogance of the cabal thinking we have no place else to go. Yes we do. And the sooner we go there, the sooner we can break that arrogance. The Independents are the largest, fastest growing group in the country. If we can unite in support of one candidate, we could literally take the Whitehouse. Their days are numbered, ours are just beginning.

Nice, nice essay Tex. Ain't it the truth? It has been a long three years. It's like that Steve Martin scene from "The Jerk": "The first day I met you ... was like 5 days. The second day .... that was like two days ...."

I'm hugely optimistic. Our mortal enemies abound, but we've never been better positioned as conservatives. No humans have ever been blessed by God with health, freedom, prosperity and enlightenment as we 2004 Americans are.

The best is yet to come. Let's roll!

All the good accomplished will be meaningless if we do not tackle illegal immigration. Bush's proposal on this does nothing but maintain a very dangerous status quo.

The worst is yet to come.

I've said this before- voting for someone who isn't even going to vote for himself is silly.

You left out the TSA, the Agriculture Bill, The Dept. of Homeland Security and the Steel tariffs. From where I sit, Bush has done more to achieve the Dems' agenda than his own. He even abandoned his promise to privatize a tiny portion of SS.

I give him high marks for the War on Terror but, on balance, that's not saying much when everything else is thrown in.
