Opponents acknowledge that a Dean presidential nomination would dramatically change the party. They just contend that it would mean oblivion, a return to the days when Democrats lost five of six presidential elections between 1968 and 1988. Back then, they were portrayed by Republicans as tax-raisers and weak on defense. Sounds like a GOOD thing to me ! Go, Dean, go !!

"It's a threat to the Washington establishment, to the candidates from Washington," said Dean adviser Steve McMahon. "They're trying to stop it and it's perfectly understandable. But they're not going to succeed." The Democrats must surely realize by now that only Bush can beat Bush. Bush needs successful policies in jobs, Iraq, Iran, Israel-Palestine, NK, Syria, Iran and Taiwan.
Bush is 'all-in' in Texas Poker. Dean is the only Democrat who can cover him. A Bush win on these issues will put Dean and the left-wing out of the game before November and leave just Bush and Clinton at the table.

I think a Dean/Clark ticket would be good for this country.

Future? why worry about that when you have no regard for your party's past? They once represented a respectable and responsible opposition, ala HST or even JFK at his best but now they're just an embarrassing ensemble of idiots and pandering pimps.
They will figure it out and let guys like Zell Miller or John Breaux rise to the top or they will join the Whigs as a footnote.
Or they will lie their way into office and kill us all.

Well you know Dean has it bagged in Iowa when Harkin makes a move like that - I wonder if it Harkin is making a little jab at clinton machine under the cover of Bradley.
It is starting to look like the Clinton have some problems in the Party. Harkin would not do that unless he saw an openning. What is it: Clark for VP? Clark/Dean with Dean as the VP? The Clintons out altogether?
Or do I have this all wrong?
We will see how Heir Clark does, but it looks like the what is left of the "pre-Clinton" party is trying to take it back. If so that leaves two questions: 1) Is there enough left of the old party to revive it? 2) Has the country moved too far to the right to take the "new old party" seriously? The young blood in the party seems so left wing - even bordering on anarchists. They are in a way a wilder bunch than in the New Left days and they do not have the demogaphic bulge of the Boomers.

Personally, I wish conservatives would hold their fire till after Dean sews up the nomination.

Agreed, it seems like conservatives are doing their best to ensure that Bush does not get to run against him.
Highlight Dean's faults AFTER he gets the nomination.

How so ?? ...
It would result in a Republican landslide.

Dean/Clark would provide the sane dems with much information about how nutso their party has become. If they don't become republicans, at least they'll stay home and not vote, and that's good for this country.

They left Sharpton off of their list of candidates...

If a political party can't withstand a single candidate it must be a very weak party. This is so fun to watch.

ha ! I didn't see that ! They sure did. I guess The Dallas Morning News
