According to her story, her Catholic friend turned to her Catholic church to get help. Why didn't she go to her own church? Does she have one? What about family? (I suppose she could say she and her husband were orphans to enhance this tearjerker.)

What help did Tancredo's office offer her (or her own congressman, for that matter)?

Tancredo is offering to get rid of the illegals that are plaguing her town.

But not offering to help her out?

According to her tale of woe, she and her husband have health problems (hubby with back & leg problems, she with monthly ministrokes and cancer), had to eat pasta for Christmas dinner, and who knows what else. Will Tancredo wave a magic wand and make she and her hubby better again? Wow, what a guy.

1. Things are different in NYC.
2. The solution is to fix the welfare system, not import a new underclass that will vote for more socialism!

But not offering to help her out?

She didn't ask him to help her out with special welfare. I got the impression she wanted justice and fair treatment. In other words, enforcement of the 14th amendment -- a responsibility of congress.

It isn't a congressman's job to give handouts but one legitimate responsibility of the the federal government is to secure the borders. They've been failing to do that.

Yes they are. You have more Puerto Ricans living in NYC than on the island...and it isn't because of the climate. Then again, not much INS can do about that given that Ricans are U.S. citizens.

WHAT I hear from you is that the contractors would prefer to hire the ILEGALS I wonder why ,could it be that these people would take lower wages and not complain about how they were treated, gee sounds real good if your a contractor.

No, I did not say that, but others on this thread have. I have said that, if these people do the job better, no one in his right mind would not want to hire them. And, if you are doing business with a contractor who is not a good businessman, be careful.

As for their wages, I have had Mexicans work for me (legally), and paid them exactly as I paid anyone else: according to merit.

I hate to bust everyone's bubble here, but a $10 hour went a lot further for my customer with a Mexican laborer than with a white one, about 3 times out of 5.

So she doesn't want "special welfare." She just wants regular welfare.

They've probably paid a lot more in taxes than they'd ever get back from welfare. Why do you have a special hatred for this woman? Is it because she complained about illegals taking over her town? How do you feel about illegal immigration?

Tell her to get a job and quit whining. That'll help her out and make her a productive member of society.

Puerto Ricans are citizens as are those from other territories. Unofrtunately, many of the same pathologies found in the African American community are expressed in the Puerto Rican one. Given the number who still do not speak proper English (or proper Spanish!) it is actually worse in this community.
My real issue is with the far larger influx of foreigners, legal and illegal. We do not need ot import a new dependent class of improperly assimilated people.

"Will Tancredo wave a magic wand and make she and her hubby better again? "

When low income American citizens denied access to the same social services that other who are undeserving (illegal) then a negative opinion forms, and rightly so. That magic wand might not this family "better" by giving her some that may/or may not be deserved, but by eliminating the lawlessness and injustice in the system.

I've slapped the compassion right out of me, and have regained my faculties. Disregard my previous post.

You love a welfare state, just gimme gimme gimme.

And I thought they cancelled "Queen for a Day" years ago. She's the prime example why it's not on the airwaves anymore.
