We have allowed the creation of the Organization of American States (similar to the European Union), ratified NAFTA and are about to ratify FTAA. This ratificaiton will put our Congress at the level of a state government among the socialist and communist countries of the Americas. It will bind us to international law, not our Constitution, and it will bind us to decisions made by the collective of socialist and communist countries of the Americas.

Because our government is participating in the giveaway of our sovereignty, it is a little thing to them to give social security to illegals. In fact, this policy was agreed upon at the Summit of the Americas conference in 1998. You can go there and see policy statements on illegals and social security and illegals and remittances.

At no time do the American people get consulted in any of this, nor Congress. We have a supranational body, the OAS that is actually exercising authority over us in the matter of illegal immigration, and not one of our elected officals is doing anything but agreeing with them.

If you don't believe in the OAS , here is the charter, ratified by our Congress. It is full of socialist speaks, never talks about individual rights,and controlls countries like the federal government controls our states.

CHARTER OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES *

IN THE NAME OF THEIR PEOPLES, THE STATES REPRESENTED AT THE NINTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF AMERICAN STATES,

Convinced that the historic mission of America is to offer to man a land of liberty and a favorable environment for the development of his personality and the realization of his just aspirations;

Conscious that that mission has already inspired numerous agreements, whose essential value lies in the desire of the American peoples to live together in peace and, through their mutual understanding and respect for the sovereignty of each one, to provide for the betterment of all, in independence, in equality and under law;

Convinced that representative democracy is an indispensable condition for the stability, peace and development of the region;

Confident that the true significance of American solidarity and good neighborliness can only mean the consolidation on this continent, within the framework of democratic institutions, of a system of individual liberty and social justice based on respect for the essential rights of man;

Persuaded that their welfare and their contribution to the progress and the civilization of the world will increasingly require intensive continental cooperation;

Resolved to persevere in the noble undertaking that humanity has conferred upon the United Nations, whose principles and purposes they solemnly reaffirm;

Convinced that juridical organization is a necessary condition for security and peace founded on moral order and on justice; and

In accordance with Resolution IX of the Inter-American Conference on Problems of War and Peace, held in Mexico City,

The American States establish by this Charter the international organization that they have developed to achieve an order of peace and justice, to promote their solidarity, to strengthen their collaboration, (**sounds like communism)

From the website of the guy who pledged himself to a three-term term limit & recently announced he's running for his fourth term

So Tancredo changed his mind. No law against that. By the way, the voters in his district overwhelmingly re-elected him to a third term in Congress. I guess they let him know what they thought of him!

the guy who wanted to see an honor student deported.

Are you referring to that illegal alien lawbreaker honor student? He ought to be deported.

We are simply a cog now, in the Organization of American States. See post #101.

Let's get rid of the welfare state, eject every illegal and close the border.

It took a year to mobilize and move a few hundred thousand military members to Iraq. These servicemen were easy to identify and followed orders. How exactly are the 10 million plus illegals to be deported involuntarily, who will do it, how long will it take, how much will it cost, and who will replace them in the marketplace? The deadbeat losers in the ghetto and trash in the rural areas won't work at McDonalds and Wal-Mart for $8+ an hour. Think the Dimwits in Congress are going to lay down without a filibuster on ending the welfare state?

Instead of focusing on the "ideal" solution, how about working on a realistic solution?

The early immigrants became a part of America and assimilated in every way.

Eventually yes. But not without deliberate attempts to retain their identity. And there are still plenty of people in New York, New Jersy, and thereabouts that are easily identifiable as Italian at a glance. And many major cities still sport neighborhoods dominated by white ethnics.

Modern academics think it's uncool to assimilate but most Latinos blend in after a few generations.

And don't reply with a spasm of rhetoric and hide behind the Constitution, talking about it requiring government to do border enforcement things for you. That's not conservatism.

Yes it is, conservatives believe in limited government, not zero government. Defending the borders is a legitimate function of government as defined in the Constitution.

Conservatism is a philosophy that opposes government action in society, regardless of any Constitution or preference or items of convenience.

No, you are confusing conservatism with libertarianism.

But did this specific letter writer's cancer cure spontaneously? There's no way to know and no way to find out. Until then, this letter is apocryphal.

Do you suppose Tom Tancredo would post it on his website if he didn't check the source?

"And as for the 8 million already here -- no, we don't need that many cops to do it. One cop can arrest thousands of them over several years."

The cops were told years ago to leave them alone.The illegals know this, and they no longer fear them.

How exactly are the 10 million plus illegals to be deported involuntarily, who will do it, how long will it take, how much will it cost, and who will replace them in the marketplace?

Who will do it ?: We will. If enough people complain about contractors who hire illegals, then those contractors will be run out of business, the illegals will be forced out of work and they will go home (see post 45).

How long will it take ?: If 100,000 cops each arrest one illegal every week they will be gone in two years.

What will it cost?: It will cost a lot less than it costs in crime, in welfare, in grief, and all of the problems we will have as long as they are here. What was California worth?

Who will replace them?: Hutterites will grow crops, American teenagers will work at McDonalds. And the jobs that aren't taken will vanish. Too bad. If legal workers won't take the job, then the job is superfluous. Some rich people will have to clean their own toilets and some median strips will have rocks instead of flowers.

All these things do not require an act of congress or an executive order from the President. All it takes is enforcement of existing law.

The cops were told years ago to leave them alone.

Maybe the person who told them that should be arrested for obstruction of justice.

What are you, a lawyer? I don't feel like I need prove anything. If you don't trust him ask him yourself. It's not like this came from some blog or spam.

Aw, poor baby. You're as much of a victim as the woman who wrote the letter, huh?

If this was on Hillary Clinton's website, Freepers would be tearing it apart, but yet because it's on Tom Tancredo's website, it can't be questioned.

Interesting. More interesting that you'd take this at face value without questioning its veracity.

I have no problem with a legal guest worker program provided (a) they are not entitled to welfare and other government handouts, (b) they cannot bring kids with them to burden the public school system, (c) they cannot marry a U.S. citizen without a rigorous background check (at their expense) to ensure that the marriage is not a fraud, (d) any children born in the U.S. are not entitled to automatic U.S. citizenship, (e) a guest worker cannot bring either friends or family to the U.S., (f) there is a 25-year moratorium on non-English speaking immigrants while assimilation occurs, (g) there is an effective deportation system in place, and (h) immigration is based solely on what the immigrant can bring to the U.S. in terms of education, skills, and assets. As for the guest worker program, I'd require Mexico to abandon Spanish as its official language and make English a mandatory second language in its school system. I'd also require Mexico to abandon its no-extradition policy that it uses with glee to harbor fugitives from U.S. justice.

This brings up something that I've wondered about for a very long time. I'm all in favor of immigration: I wouldn't be here without it. But in the past, you had to have financial sponsors to get into the country, or prove that you had a trade that would allow you to support yourself. And you couldn't bring your dependants with you, without sponsorship.

My grandfather came to the US in the late 1920's, and by 1934, had brought over his 2 minor children from Poland, but by the time he could afford to bring the rest of his family over, it was 1939, and too late. How is it now that people who come into the country are immediately elligible for government services and welfare?

There should be a minimum waiting period of having to pay into the system before you can begin to "reap the benefits" of the work of others.

Mark

Not only was the letter on his website but he read it on the floor of the House. If you can prove the letter is bogus you've got a scoop. You'll be a hero at DU and moveon.com, Go for it!

The author of the letter is Rhonda Rose:

The following letter was received by the heroic Congressman, Tom Tancredo

What exactly qualifies Tancredo as being "heroic"? Because he makes pretty speeches? Because he's such a snappy dresser?

I call BS on this one. My "heroes" are in the ranks of the armed forces, police, and fire departments, not on the floor of the House. Did he even serve his country in the Armed Forces, ever?

The Tancredo bashers have been quite busy the last couple of days. I've been involved in flame wars over this. He's not a perfect man, but what politican is ? GWB dropped the ball on CFR and I'm almost 100% sure Tancredo voted against it in the House.

Giving legal status to the line-jumpers is just plain wrong. At least we have some in Congress willing to fight this.

Scarey map.

We've gotten a few of those Somalis here in St. Louis. Welfare benifits here in Missouri aren't as good as Maine's which is a plus for us. Crime is alot worst here too and I hear these Somalis are seen as easy target for the local criminal population.

We really don't need to be importing in anymore welfare moochers and democratic voters.
