Lottery = a tax on the stupid. Im also not stupid. $5 per week on lottery is hardly $40+ a week on cigarettes that could kill me. You tell me which is stupid (apologies to smokers).

Both. You are paying a voluntary tax.

$5 as week for the lottery versus how much you have won over that time?

I should have said mathematically stupid/ignorant. You need not be stupid to play the lottery. Apologies.

$1.00 a week out of my pop money. But when I go into the Quicki-Mart near where I work, I see people supported by my taxes dropping $50 a day, with "boxed" and "reversed" and things I didn't know our state lottery did. "Three of the 3 number, two of the 5-number. (That's the AM drawing, right?) Give me a 4-number for tonight, boxed, and five of those 2$ scratch-offs." You are right. A tax on those who are bad at math.
