Katherine Harris Planning US Senate Run
Drudge ^

Watch your makeup compact, Hillary, Florida's Katherine Harris may have her eyes on the United States Senate, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

MORE

Against the apparent wishes of senior Bush strategists, Harris has decided in her heart and mind that she will seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat, sources close to Harris tell DRUDGE.

"She wants it, wants it badly!" a top source said Thursday. "She'll make her decision public within the next week."

The source, who has daily contact with Harris, cautions the congresswoman still could hold back and not make the run, in deference to the president and his brother's wishes.

Sarasota County's GOP chairman, Tramm Hudson, said he spoke to Harris Tuesday night and that she seemed ready to run, according to reports. Harris continues to be one of the party's top fund-raisers.

Elsewhere, Texas Senator Kay Hutchison has reportedly advised her republican counterpart to "Go for it!"

If elected Harris would join a select group of women ever to serve in the United States Senate.

MORE Harris advisers dispel any notion that bad blood still runs in Florida over Harris's role in the 2000 election drama.

"Look, Governor Bush handily won re-election last year, after 2000, and the state's voters did not punish him," notes one top Harris strategist who asked not to be named.

"And they will not punish Katherine. The senate campaign will be on the issues, and electing the best person to represent Florida in the senate!"

Strange?! Nothing strange about wanting 60 votes to overcome any future Demlib filibusters. Now is there?

I will venture to say that if the Dem's controlled 51 votes the 60 vote nonsense would be history, one way or the other. The dem's rule with an Iron Fist. The repubs, haven't learned how to be a majority party yet, and i am beginning to think they never will.

Vote in Congressional District 13, Manatee & Sarasota counties, 2002

Katherine Harris for USRep 54.5%
Jeb Bush for Governor 59.9%

So she ran 5.5 points behind the Governor in her district, consistent with her trailing freshman reps in other open seat districts. Heck, if she'd run in a year like 2000, she might have even lost that district!!! But she got a very good year to run in, and managed to not blow it, which I guess counts for something.

>>>... Tancredo is an absolute nut.

Hardly. The ACU rates Tom Tancredo a "99" on their conservative scale. Besides, PresBush`s immigration proposal is all about granting illegals a pardon and rewarding them with amnesty. Only an idiot would back Bush on this one.

Rep Tancredo is right and the vast majority of American's agree with him.

Actually that's what Reagan did, Reagan Man. Bush's plan is NOT amnesty, no matter how many times you repeat it. But that's an argument for a different thread.

Why don't you post the numbers for GWB because that's what we've all be discussing. And post it for the whole district. I believe there are parts of at least one more county in there.

No s**t sherlock. LOL

This initiative by PresBush is basically a repeat of the same bad policy decision made by PresReagan in 1986. It was called amnesty in 1986 and its still amnesty today. That legislation was suppose to solve the illegal immigration problem. It didn't. What PresBush proposed yesterday, won't solve the illegal immigration problem either. Bottom line. Without stricter border enforcement efforts, the problem of illegal immigration will only be perpetuated. We've got to shut the door closed, before we can effectively clean up the immigration mess with coherent legislation that has real teeth. There should be no reward offered for breaking the law. Illegals should be prosecuted, then deported or imprisoned.

Were the cockles of your heart warmed when Elian Gonzalez was snatched and sent back to Castro's Cuba?

No and Luis Gonzalez knows it too.

Different circumstances.

You sound a bit defensive. Knowing your answer, will they let you keep your membership in F.A.I.R.?

I'm not defensive. Just telling it like it is. I'm not a member of FAIR.

I don't support amnesty, open borders and giving government handouts to illegal aliens. Period.

I prognosticated it right after he won the nomination in September 2002.

Yeah, but you're from NH...what do you expect! :)

GWB did not run in 2002. He ran in a much worse GOP year, 2000. If GWB had run in 2002, he would have won the state easily.

Let me use small words for you: do you remember 1994? When many Republicans won? They did better than they would have in a normal year. Similar to 2002. Harris had a very good GOP year to run in, where Republicans were doing 5-10 points better than they were expected to do. But Harris only did 1 point better. Why? Maybe because

HER CAMPAIGN SUCKED AND SHE'S NOT POPULAR

But that's just a theory.

The rest of the district is about 9% of the total. Go ahead and add it up if you've got the time. FL DOS website.

Forgive me if I don't waste any more time trying to squeeze water out of that rock you call a head, but I've had it.

Ok. Go back to your boss at the Betty Caster campaign and tell her you need a more complete education on elections before she sends you again to do battle with adults.

LOL Figure it out for yourself wiseguy. Only an idiot would have trouble seeing the special circumstances involving Elian Gonzalez. That's as far as I'll take your bait. You Libertarians are real big on amnesty and open borders. I understand. Conservatives are not.
