Bush action won't sway Latino voters

Bush action won't sway Latino voters

So Latino voters are supposed to back President Bush because of his statements on illegal workers? Well, this Latina-PTA-soccer mom's concerns and moral and patriotic values go beyond immigration "reform."

Like white American voters, I want my children to feel secure and be proud of their country, but I also want a fair share of that American pie filled with hope and dignity, a decent-paying job, quality health care, a good education and clean air to breathe and water to drink.

Latino voters will remember Bush's stance on affirmative action, the negative impact on predominantly Latino schools from No Child Left Behind policies and executions of Mexican prisoners -- and the Republican Party's shameless diluting of Latino voter strength.

This letter to the editor (Atlanta Journal and Constitution) seems to suggest that recent Immigration reform may not be applauded throughout the Latino community. No pleasing (or buying) some people.

His actions, as usual, were not meant to pander to voters, especially targetting a group like Latinos, but to address a specific issue and deal with it as he sees best.

Period.

It was pure and simple pathetic political pandering.

Uh, obviously not, but I see some will merely chant their talking points until the cows come home and won't change their minds.

So be it.

Most latinos will vote democrat, just like they always have. Bush only got 30% of the vote. Letting illegals vote just gives another 70% of 10 million new votes to the democrats.

Look at the way the letter is constructed. I promise you that this is a fax from the DNC with someone's name on the bottom. Normal folk don't call the Education Bill the "No Child Left Behind" Act. Opinion hustlers in Washington do that.

In short, a mass e-mailing designed to convince gullible editors that Latinos must stay with the Democrats. There are probably copies of this same letter with minor variations being sent out by Democratic activist women all over the country.

But it won't matter; Bush will win enough of the Latino vote to crush Dean in the Electoral College.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

From that statement, by Mrs. Tucker (a latina married to an anglo maybe?) I got the impression she's now got what she wanted [the 'American dream'] and doesn't feel like sharing it. Just my opinion.

address a specific issue and deal with it as he sees best.

I guess that's true. The choice is prosecution or legalization.

The later makes more since because other people have to pay for it. Security is no problem because he gets it free for life from the Secret Service.

Cyn...Wahington Times this morning has some factual figures about how the American people view immigration. Bush was pandering.

I've got a buddy originally from the D.R. who was never too involved with American politics. After analyzing the situation over the past few years and following major issues, he decided that he was a conservative. One of the basis for this decision was that after examining all of the positions and platforms of the Democrats, that they were morally incompatible with any of his dearest held beliefs.

I think it's something that's happening with many voters from many different demographies, not just Latinos.

It's possible to poster placed the "Tucker" after the Latino name as a slap at the ultra-liberal AJC columnist named Cynthia Tucker.

Perhaps the poster could clarify that.

CLARIFICATION: "Tucker" is a suburb of Atlanta. This is the author's location, not her last name.

My bad. Should have removed this part from the post. Dangers of posting Pre-coffee.

Does this have Karl Rove written all over it? Silly question maybe, but do we think California might actually be in play in November? I'm thinking the strategy on this was to swallow hard and hope for a net vote gain when everything is said and done... and in all probability that is what we'll get. Mighty risky though, definite pander. Personally I'm holding out for more details. I don't think it is fair to call this amnesty though in the traditional sense.

Oh, now you're going to say the president is indifferent to the security of the country?

That's a pretty ignorant statement.

No.

I would call it a "stupid question".

Thanks; I know zilch about Atlanta and its suburbs, so I learned something new this morn!

From another poster:
"Letting illegals vote just gives another 70% of 10 million new votes to the democrats."

This proposal is NOT going to give any illegal the right to vote.

From David Horowitz' Blog yesterday:
http://frontpagemag.com/blog/index.asp
A step forward on immigration - Wednesday, January 07, 2004 3:11 PM
David Horowitz
The President's immigration reform announced today is rational, sound and a step in the right direction. It recognizes that there is an economic need for labor that America's labor force is not meeting; it recognizes that borders are important, and that control of borders is essential. It recognizes that citizenship is a great privilege and not a right; it recognizes that it is dangerous and utlimately suicidal to reward illegal entry with citizenship and thus dissolve our borders. This is not a solution to the immigration mess, but it is a step forward -- something we have not had since 1964.

Thanks Maria.

Add Horowitz to the rational voices of Medved and Hewitt, and even Mark Steyn, who had a few concerns--said on Hewitt's radio program yesterday this is definitely not "amnesty", it is not pandering (duh, I say), and it most definitely is not opening our borders, but securing them.

And yet, that is exactly how the Dems will...and exactly how the media IS spinning it.

No, Jorge said he's indifferent to the security of the country; he wants to grant amnesty between 8 and 20 million people who have violated at least four federal laws.

How can we ever bash the 'Clinton's pardons without appearing hypocritical if we stand up for Arbusto's miscarriage?
