Contact Tom Tancredo (R-Co), Chirman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus (HIRC). He's one of the few elected republicans with his head on straight. Here's their platform:

Rep. Tom Tancredo’s Four-Point Plan for Immigration Control

The United States has lost control over its immigration policy. Over one million persons enter our nation illegally each year and we have antiquated and error-prone systems for knowing who our legal visitors are and for enforcing their visa time limits. Every poll shows that over 75% of citizens support border security and strict enforcement of our immigration laws. They want our immigration policies fixed. Here is my four-point plan for achieving control of our borders and enforcing sensible immigration policies.

1. Secure our Nation’s Borders

Increase Border Patrol manpower from the present 11,500 to 20,000 (HR 3534). Use the U.S. Military until the Border Patrol reaches that manpower level (HR 277). Accelerate the use of new technology and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to identify and help apprehend smugglers and trespassers. Double the capacity of the detention centers for apprehended trespassers. End the “catch and release” policy by instituting fines and jail time for repeat offenders. Require stiff prison sentences for convicted “coyotes” and felons who return to the U.S. after deportation. Accelerate the implementation of the “USVISIT” biometric identifier program for all foreign nationals entering the country through our ports of entry. 2. Establish a Genuine Guest Worker Program

Enact a genuine Guest Worker Bill (HR 3534) to allow any foreign national to enter the US legally to work for up to one year in a job that cannot be filled by a citizen. Require employers to advertise all jobs on an internet bulletin board and for two weeks before hiring a Guest Worker. Require illegal aliens already in the U.S. to first return home and apply for jobs through the legal processes. 3. Improve “Interior Enforcement” of Immigration Laws

Provide adequate resources to the “Detention and Removal” branch of the Bureau of Customs and Immigration Enforcement (BICE) to allow apprehension and removal of all criminal aliens. Enact the “CLEAR” Act (HR 2671) to give local law enforcement incentives and reimbursements for participating in immigration law enforcement. Establish stiff fines and tax penalties for employers who violate the law by hiring illegal aliens, and devote adequate resources to identify and prosecute those employers. 4. Remove Incentives for Illegal Immigration

Employers who hire illegal aliens should face stiff fines and tax penalties (see#2 above). Federal and State agencies should be prohibited from recognizing the Mexican Government’s “Matricula Consular” ID card. States that grant driver’s licenses to illegal aliens should suffer loss of federal highway funds. Children born to illegal aliens should not be given citizenship status (HR 1567). Federal court rulings and other policies that require health and educational services to illegal aliens should be overturned. Amend Social Security Act to deny credits for wages earned in illegal employment or to self-employed engaged in illegal activities (HR 1631). Insist that the Government of Mexico extradite felony criminals who retreat into Mexico. Encourage the Government of Mexico to repeal its Dual Citizenship law.

Here's the other members of the caucus. What's funny is that there' only two democrats in the caucus and one of them's becoming a republican (Hall from Tx): Todd Akin (R-MO) Robert Aderholt (R-AL) Spencer Bachus (R-AL) J. Gresham Barrett (R-SC) Richard Baker (R-LA) Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD) Joe Barton (R-TX) Michael Bilirakis (R-FL) John Boozman (R-AR) Allen Boyd (D-FL) Henry Brown (R-SC) Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL) Michael Burgess (R-TX) Dan Burton (R-IN) Eric Cantor (R-VA) John Carter (R-TX) Mac Collins (R-GA) Barbara Cubin (R-WY) John Culberson (R-TX) JoAnn Davis (R-VA) Nathan Deal (R-GA) John Doolittle (R-CA) Jim Duncan (R-TN) J. Randy Forbes (R-VA) Phil Gingrey (R-GA) Virgil Goode (R-VA) Sam Graves (R-MO) Jim Greenwood (R-PA) Gil Gutknecht (R-MN) Ralph Hall (D-TX) Joel Hefley (R-CO) Wally Herger (R-CA) Henry Hyde (R-IL) Robin Hayes (R-NC) J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) Duncan Hunter (R-CA) Johnny Isakson (R-GA) Ernest Istook (R-OK) Chris John (D-LA) Sam Johnson (R-TX) Walter Jones (R-NC) Steve King (R-IA) Donald Manzullo (R-IL) Gary Miller (R-CA) Jeff Miller (R-FL) Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) Charlie Norwood (R-GA) Butch Otter (R-ID) Mike Pence (R-IN) Chip Pickering (R-MS) Jim Ramstad (R-MN) Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) Ed Royce (R-CA) Edward Schrock (R-VA) Pete Sessions (R-TX) John Shadegg (R-AZ) Michael Simpson (R-ID) Lamar Smith (R-TX) Nick Smith (R-MI) Cliff Stearns (R-FL) John Sullivan (R-OK) Tom Tancredo (R-CO) Patrick Tiberi (R-OH) Fred Upton (R-MI) David Vitter (R-LA) Zach Wamp (R-TN) Dave Weldon (R-FL) Roger Wicker (R-MS)

I know you disagree with me but its JMO, for what its worth.

BTW, I was wrong on how Rove will handle conservative backlash. I think White House will not attack integrity of conservative opposition on FR and radioshows; they will ignore and hide the issue through obfuscation in other "more important issues that unite us not divide us" news. Next, they will watch traditional media play race card/extremist namecalling against conservatives that seek to nullify act during this coming year. Unless conservatives stand strong, the bill will pass quietly so that legislators can get their power fix they are addicted to. I call that lessons learned in 1994-96, otherwise known as the the Newt factor.

All I can say to the Prez is that I hope it was all worth it! Meanwhile, one of the illegals in my area is very happy because the family is moving back to Uraguay to become rich landlords with all the money they saved not paying taxes and by living on the public dole. And yes, they are openly flaunting their illegal status knowing no one will arrest and deport them.

Have you reported them?

If I report them then must I report all the others, too? Let's see, there's Lillian that used a SSI# that wasn't issued yet. Don't know where she is now because the company she worked for fired her. Heard from her brother that she's working elsewhere in the city. Or maybe all the guys "freezing" in 60 degree temps that work for the construction companies. Man, there's a lot of illegals to rat out!! Must be 8 to 12 million or more.

Question is what the gov't will do. Heard the INS section of HSA is just not willing to answer calls.

Let me think about this question some more.

Well I can only advise you to make damn sure they are actually illegal or they will own your butt. One reason the problem is so large is that everyone wants everyone else to take care of it. If you know for sure that someone is illegal and you don't say anything then you are part of the problem.

And if people are offered the opportunity to stay in this country legally if and only if they report their employment, and yet they refuse to do so, then the act of having offered them legal residency may make it politically much easier to deport them.

If the goal were to get as many non-citizens out of the country ASAP, then this kind of recognition would work just fine. Couple that with:

1. Fines and jail time for corporations and individuals who don't try to avoid hiring invaders.

2. A law that lets citizens apply for wages and the value of benefits lost to non-citizen employees.

3. The employer having to make up back wages to the invader. This would be the money the employee saved by not hiring citizens (a real nice check, from private enterprise, to restart life at home).

Problem solved...you think maybe if I sent these suggestions to the White House they'd be implemented? (sarcasm)

If it helps you sleep better at night thinking that I am a disruptor or a DU plant, then go right ahead in your delusional thinking. Here's a tip - you can look up other freepers profiles. I was posting to this forum when DU was a figment of some idiots imagination.

Ignoring the conservative base is no laughing matter. It cost Pres. Bush's father the election back in '92, and we ended up with the Klintoon.

I see where my congresscritter, Dr. Michael Burgess, is a member of the caucus.

I intend to suggest one other point for their plan: that nobody arrested and deported for illegal immigration EVER be allowed to re-enter this country, under any circumstances.

And maybe one more: that nobody entering on a work permit is to ever be allowed to collect unemployment.

Hi Geeze! I haven't written on FR for a long time. So good to hear from you. I moved, and then I had surgery and then other stuff happened, you know the way it is. :)

Geeze, I'm sick at heart. I don't believe there is anything that can be done about the millions of illegals coming to America every year, sucking up our jobs and tax money. Yes, you are right about the traitor name for those who want this desecration of America to continue.

Now you two, don't go making me a liar!

I said if ONE other person on this board understand the underlying genius of the Bush proposal, I would be shocked.

That the two of you get it right out of the gate requires me to have to reconsider my assessment!

It is such a brilliant solution to a lingering and on-going problem that this administration inherited.

Makes you wonder...what else George will tackle and solve if given just another four years?

Truly astonishing. This is government by ACTION, not just words.

President Bush, you are a hero.

I am a Republican that has voted a straight Republican ticket for years.. no longer. I am writing TOM TANCREDO in both the primary and the general election for president. You are the ONLY congressman that has the fortitude to tell the truth on immigration. God forgive George Bush.. for he certainly does not have mine.

Works for me. I think that to give W his own "Shock and Awe" there should be a strong "Draft Tom Tancredo for President" movement at the Convention. Bush needs to understand that he has crossed way over a line that Americans have drawn in the sand.

Either he's with us, or he's with the illegal immigrants.

What's next? A proposal to pay reparations??

I can't believe that someone who *claims* to have voted straight Republican for years would decide not to vote Republican this year over one issue, when there are so many other issues (War on Terror, growing the economy, judicial nominations) that are so much more important than this single issue.

They wouldn't be "reparations". They would be "limited earned temporary asset realignments forthechildren".

No claim to it ..the truth. I have worked campaigns.. done some campaign managing for Republican candidates.. I voted for Bush and have supported him .. I feel this strongly re this issue.. I know that the immigration issue is that important for the future of our country. Immigration IS re war on terror, the economy, etc. it encompasses so many issues. It is NOT a single issue.
