"Those who believe in capitalism, will let national market forces determine salaries and occupations, not an influx of ''brains'' nor an influx of poor immigrants willing to accept low wages. A continuing influx of poor immigrants does nothing for the economy in the long term except perpetuate poverty and low paying jobs."
Obviously Bush disagrees with free-markets. If anyone missed his comments today....he basically said the economy beckons his reforms on immigration because we haven't any Americans willing to take the low-paying jobs. So, instead of asking the question: "Why won't Americans take these jobs" (the anwers are readily available to anyone who wants to face the facts about America's entitlement programs among other things.), instead of asking if something like the extension and re-extension of unemployment benefits has anything to do with the lack of a willing labor pool, instead of probing the results of welfare, instead of taking the time to see the negative results of of an ever-expanding labor pool due to illegal immigrants.......they excaberate the problem with immigration reform.

1.)How many immigrants can the U.S. digest before it gags or passes out? The consequence of this gluttony in 50 years will be the dissolution of the union.
2.)A continuing influx of poor immigrants does nothing for the economy in the long term except perpetuate poverty and low paying jobs.
3.) A long term and effective immigration policy must include detaining and deporting illegal immigrants and securing our borders, not amnesty. I think every elected official should be forced to read this article. I can hardly imagine the amount of hate mail this man will be receiving in the near future. LOL

Bush is the best thing for America in a generation.
He is a leader, a statesman, a man of heroic and epic deeds.
Choosing to deal with the immigration mess head on is another of a long line of courageous acts that absolutely humble his predecessor.
McNaders are all the same - if it isn't my way, I ain't playin'.
Arnold is only beginning to prove to be the impressive and powerful candidate we knew he would be, despite the McNader ankle-biters.
Like Arnold, Bush is dealing with a problem ignored by others. His solution, to focus on the good of the illegal immigrants in that they expose the vast need for entry-level laborers in America, and to make it easy to obey the law to serve this need, is BRILLIANT.
The problem with McNaders is that they want Bush to enforce the laws that have been winked at for years, and that would devastate families and companies to the detriment of America.
He's not saying it was right to cheat. He is saying to form a line, follow some simple rules to protect American jobs and security, and we'll do it right.
Not just BRILLIANT - AWE-INSPIRING!

I'll give Bush credit for trying to work on a solution to the immigration problem. There's no easy solution, and he's bound to ruffle a few feathers. Still, he's not pretending a problem does not exist. He's put forth his plan and it's up to Congress now to go with it or offer an alternative.

I keep looking for your 'sarcasm off' tag because you surely can't be as stupid as your comments indicate.

The above piece was an interesting read, although I found a couple of statements in it about 'conservatives' that struck me as nonsense, particularly as we 'conservatives' represent quite often the Christian wing of the party, and we all know how crucial the Church was to abolitionism.

I agree it was a well thought-out essay that helped me amplify certain aspects of this immigration idiocy. What astounds me is the number of people in gov't, academics, media, etc. that absolutely give no thought to the future ramifications of what their blind support to bush's (I HEREBY REFUSE TO USE CAPITAL 'B' WHEN REFERRING TO OUR OWN EL PRESIDENTE) plans will bring to this country someday. I forsee conflict s such as the Bosnia debacle springing up all over this country in the not too distant future.

Bush's solution is worse and stupider than staying with the chaos we have now. Bush rewards illegal immigration same as Ronald Reagan did so we'll only get more and it'll be worse. Much worse since we are still unwilling to enforce our borders with our military

Time will prove the wisdom of the Bush policy.
The reality is the illegals are here, and have been for years. Many are the guests of Americans like you.
What Bush needs is political cover to nail those illegals to the wall who will not officially reveal their existence and play by the rules.
By giving them a fair chance to provide the best of their presence, the willingness to work at entry-level jobs that Americans shun, and removing the worst, which is their unregistered and illegal status, Bush is once again achieving the heroic and legendary.
Freepers will embrace this policy with time.
I'll be patient in my counter-criticism because I believe their emotions and not common sense are guiding the initial reaction.

I'll give Bush credit for trying to work on a solution to the immigration problem. The solution to the illegal immigration problem is simple; enforce the laws already on the books instead of trying to create new laws.
Sometimes I think you people want to give Bush credit for breathing.

Bush's solution is worse and stupider than staying with the chaos we have now. You better believe it is. Illegal aliiens will now pour in faster than ever before. Americans have fought too hard to have a country to let it be ruined by politicians. Bush would be wise to change his mind and fast.
To: SwordofTruth
Now you understand!
Bush will deal with the illegals and those who fail to register, HARSHLY.
After the enactment of this policy, any remaining illegals will be considered to represent a potential security threat to our great nation.
Here's the plan, but remember, Bush inherited this mess, so while it isn't perfect, it is a great beginning. Follow along:
1. Provide a means for those aliens already working in legitimate jobs for American companies or private families, and who truly deserve an American future, to properly obey and respect our laws, and let us also be kind to their families too. These are the high-profile sympathy cases that could destroy the GOP presidency if lumped in with the worst of the aliens. These hard luck stories will otherwise fill the airwaves, and many GOP and independent voters will feel the legitimate pain and suffering of such refugees. Call them the "Elians";
2. Provide a more efficient means for the next wave of good people to apply legitimately for access before they too become illegals. Call them the "Pre-emptives";
3. Bear down HARD on the remaining illegals, and begin to treat them as that: ILLEGAL. Without remorse and without shame, get rid of them. Call them the "Osamas". For the first time, given the cover of a legitimate and efficient access pathway, THERE WILL BE NO EXCUSE FOR THEIR BEHAVIOR.
So, keep the Elians, work with the Pre-Emptives, and dump the Osamas.
Come now, Freepers, you can get there, if you try.
