And remember . . .

Americans work underground in coal mines under threat of cave-ins and poison gas.

Americans work as garbage men, outdoors in all kinds of weather, each man lifting several tons of stinking, leaking garbage every day.

Americans work in sewers and Americans work hundreds of feet in the air walking steel beams.

There is no job Americans won't do

But we are moving up in the world.

I think the current system rocks. Want in the country? Work the crap jobs for awhile, and there you go.

You are so right about that. I live in an area whose demographic is over 95% American-born caucasians. Somehow we manage to get everything done that needs doing.

Bush's proposal would encourage employers to ratchet the payscale downward until qualified Americans won't accept it. That opens the door for the prospective employer to claim that no Americans will apply for a particular job. According to Bush's proposal, that's when the employer can legally hire aliens.

Not sure I believe that anymore. It is much easier to suck off the government's teet than to work. To prove you are right, welfare needs to be reformed and welfare recipents should be made to work the jobs many say only illegals will do.

There was a time in American when any job was worth having, and to take a handout was rebuffed. That behavior has changed as our society has become more liberal- and more lazy. Reform welfare and put your statement to the test. Put Americans to work, and take away the incentive for illegals to come here.

"THERE IS NO JOB AMERICANS WON'T DO!"

Absolutely the truth. Not only that, but we work damn hard. Who built this country anyway?

While this is certainly true, this will lead to much lower wages in many of the jobs you cited, since the illegals will be able to go after those same jobs and will take minimum wage or a little more than minimum.

Yes, that's good for employers, but they aren't necessarily going to drop the prices of their goods and services to reflect that, and in the end, it will end up hurting many.

So while you have middle class jobs being farmed out to India and China, and manufacturing jobs going to China and Mexico, your lower class jobs are going to have an influx of people who will work for less. Look for massive increases in welfare and related programs (and the inevitable tax increases).

Jobs that one could once hold and raise a family or put somebody through college on are no longer able to do the same.

One more reason why I'm glad I'm partially retired and spent a few decades in the military. The military should get a boost over the next few years because of this, though. They haven't figured out a way to farm it out overseas ;-)

Garbagemen make very good money for a job that requires no brains and just two legs, two arms, and a healthy back. It's not comparable to working 14 hours a day picking chicken shit for fertilizer for $3 an hour. You're truly insane if you think the two are equal.

There is no job Americans won't do---see that's the problem-we are too expensive. We can do any job but have the gall to demand a wage worth doing a job for. You see we Americans are spoiled. We like to live like free men rather than wage slaves. How dare us.

PS: I would also add we are lazy - we have to be to need all this hard working Mexican labor.
