I never said the President shoulda, coulda or woulda, drag 10 million illegal aliens across any border.

Then what's your solution? How are you going to deal with the 10 million already here?

So if the General Election were held next Tuesday and the choice was between Bush and Dean, would you stay home?

Most likely. Doesn't matter, Dean doesn't have a snowball's chance anyhow.

"¿Usted tienen gusto de algunas fritadas con su Mac Grande?"

Would you like that super-sized with a little hepatitis-A?

The only reason I could see that this would benefit the president politically is he caqn be seen as standing up the mean, nasty, bigotted conservatives.

Wow, that was a pretty big leap now, wasn't it? Ever stop to think that he might be coming up with a workable solution that isn't 100% right or 100% left but somewhere in the middle where both sides might see some value.

Now I am beginning to see why the Palestinian/Israeli conflict has never been resolved....people aren't willing to be reasonable in finding a solution.

Regardless of the motives, paying a group of people a fraction of our own market value is exactly what got us into slavery. We've been down this road. When will we learn? And this time, taxpayers are being ripped too. Companies should't make money off of unfair labor practices and on the backs of taxpayers.

But yes, labor unions help create these problems.

Let's just grant Mexico statehood and be done with it.

"Documented temporary workers" - they're not documented now because they came here _illegally_.

Actually I agree with you. Enforcing the laws of the United States is just too _hard_. Let's give up!

Si, hay que estudiar el idioma del futuro. (Yes, it's necessary to study the language of the future - Spanish.)

More likely it will be "Spanglish"

IF they apply, and do it in the manner perscribed by law, then that's fine. But they will fall under the current quotas and they have to apply and they have to get at the back of the line. This was spelled out specifically in his speech.

Hell, it might be cheaper to just invade. ;)

Businesses MUST NOT hire illegal aliens

They do anyway. Biggest draw for them IMO? It's all tax free......No payroll taxes especially.....

I suspect you're one of those who didn't vote for Bush in 2000

Actually I did, happily.

I won't make that mistake again.

If I have the choice of voting for someone who's against everything I believe in, or someone who lies and misleads me and then does the opposite of what I believe in, guess what my vote will be? (it will be neither, I won't vote)

The country is going down the crapper fast. It doesn't make a whole lot of difference if it is fast (dean) or slower (bush).

Then what's your solution?

A valid question. Seems no one is ever in full approval of leadership, so ask what should be done. Who knows, a valid suggestion that takes the whole situation into account will be forthcoming--some day.

My comment was to **illegal** residents. Most of the illegals here do not express their gratitude because they know they are breaking the law. They usually avoid social interaction with the American population. They find it safer to keep their status hidden.

As for your man, such people number in the millions worldwide. Was he here legally? If he was, then we can all be proud to welcome him. If he was not, then why does he deserve to be here over those in other countries that have been waiting years to be reunited with their family members through the legal process? Where is the justice? The answer is there is none.

"Documented temporary workers" - they're not documented now because they came here _illegally_.

And when they register without fear of being sent home and now being able to provide for their families, they will be "documented temporary workers" until they either earn their citizenship or go home if and when the Mexican economy ever recovers.

That's what we all thought about Billy Jeff Clinton about this time in 1992 when GHWB was President and had high approval ratings.
