I'm still thinking about this whole issue but at this point, I'm leaning against it. California is a shambles in large measure due to the illegals overrrunning the state. Allowing them to get a green card doesn't seem to be helping the problem at all.

You came very close to expressing my sentiments. I have been 100% behind W with the exception of immigration and border issues. In Texas, I don't see a lot of assimilation. Instead everywhere I go everything is now printed in English and Spanish. Call a business, and you press "1" for English and "2" for Spanish. Texas is rapidly becoming Texico. I feel like I'm the one doing all the assimilating. I'm as compassionate as the next person, but am tired of my tax dollars being sucked up to provide services to illegals, and am extremely nervous about what horror could come across the border to do us harm.

POLL WWW.HANNITY.COM

On January 7, 2004 the President unveiled his proposal for temporary workers program for illegal immigrants.

Do you think this will enhance homeland security?

**Sure you have. You just haven't met one wiling to do it for less than a reasonable wage which would allow them to live with less than 5 people in a household. **

What is a reasonable wage for such a job, in your opinion? With that in mind, are you aware of the price increase that would be a result of higher wages? This should be considered.

btw, I grow most of my own vegies. So yes, I pick. For free.

The line between temporary worker and citizen is going to get murkier and murkier. If they get SS and can come and go as they please then I am not sure I see the difference between them and a citizen with a seasonal home outside the U.S. This all looks like a farce to me.

As soon as we really solve these peoples problems -- ones their own country should address -- then we perpetuate our own. If we really value these people equally, we will allow them to come legally into this country and make a life for themselves on equal and legal terms. We will not reward lawbreakers.

It's no coincidence that the former French colonies and Cuba are economic basket cases.

English is conquering the world as the prime language, yet people here are terrified that somehow this nation will become a nation of Latinos who speak Spanish. C'mon.

This has not been enacted into law yet, has it? Was this done by executive order?

And it monitors the companies that hire them and it monitors them. I don't see anything wrong with this.

Monitoring lawbreakers while allowing them to enjoy the proceeds of their criminal enterprise is not an acceptable solution.

It's an affront to the rule of law.

Were you pushed out of an orange picking job or something?

America has become overcrowded.

We are full up.

Adding more people reduces personal freedom and bloats government and multiplies laws and raises taxes.

Life isn't fair. Get over it. Everyone has been burned by time and events. Wouldn't it be nice if we could appreciate what we have and stop whining so much?

Og that's brilliant. That's what we should have said in 1776 I guess. And in 1945 too.

Hey, life isn't fair. Quit whining with your tea parties and Holocausts and whatnot. You got some stuff. Be happy

Brilliant.

"As more Americans understand the ramifications of this new policy the percentage of those approving the plan will increase."

Their attention certainly will be diverted as they watch their paychecks get raped, their neighborhoods crime infested and their schools fall apart.

Cleaning offices or picking fruit is an important job.
America's working poor citizens deserve a decent wage to do that work.

Instead, America's working poor are at the mercy of "elites" who want to save a few pennies on fruit, so they give those jobs to illegals.

And then they tell us they can't find Americans to do those jobs.
America's working poor have not the power to counter this propaganda--even the unions have turned their backs on America's working poor.

They will not be getting a decent wage now that Bush has put for this crud. Illegals have been depressing wages for a long time.

Nice post, no video, no audio here. Wading through the vituperation and angst was becoming useless.

My initial reaction is negative but not quite as negative after your post. But the devil is in the details.

Drivers licenses? Voting rights? Babies born to guest workers entitles Mom and Dad access to the dole? Who pays the administative costs of the new blue card employment agency? etc., etc.

How refreshing

I just listened to what he said, not what I thought he was going to say.
